The other day at the grocery store I picked up a bunch of meats that had just been marked down and had coupons on them. I put them right in the freezer and then the next day went to take one out and noticed none of the coupons had been removed.
I called the store and told them I had been in the day before and just noticed the coupons were not used. The woman told me some of the checkers don't remove them because they are afraid of tearing the plastic. I explained I had seen that in the past and the checker usually puts a line through the coupon. She said that they have problems with some of their checkers forgetting to do that. She said to check my reciept and if they weren't deducted to come in to the store.
I checked for my receipt but the trash had already gone out. I have to check in my reuseable grocery bag, the slip may be in there but I doubt it. What would you do? Its about $10 in coupons.

Sorry, but is really your responsibility to take the coupons off and hand them to the cashier.

nope, they peel them off for you at this store. I've never had an issue. Mostly they put the lines through them because they tear the wrap that is covering the meat, I think thats why they take care of them for you at this store. Now I wish they did operate that way because then I could definitely go back with them! Usually I watch but I was distracted and rushed and missed it.

Look for the receipt. $10 is worth going through the trash (usually). Now if the trash has already been picked up, I'd just cough it up to a learning experience.

They might be the type my store uses when discounting items or "seconds" - they specifically say "must be removed by cashier."

If I could find the receipt, I'd definitely go back. If I couldn't find it, I'd be frustrated, but not go back. Unless the store uses a loyalty card that they can pull up your recent purchases to confirm that you bought the meat, and you have the coupons in hand.

I understand. My local grocery stores will not honor those types of coupons unless the cashier removes it themselves. (Because typically they're only put on products that have been reduced to sell and they don't want people taking them off and using them for full-price fresh products.) I've always just gone back in with my receipt and they've given me a refund. I'd be digging through the trash, too....

at my store this is illegal and would void the coupons - the cashier must remove them. OP - for $10 I would definately be dumpster diving if the trash was still at my house.:rotfl2:

I hope you find the receipt. The stores around here make the checkers remove those types of coupons themselves. I've learned to put those items on the conveyor last so that I can watch them being rung up without distraction.

I'm not sure how deep I'd be diving into the trash to find that receipt. Are we talking junk mail and discarded shopping lists? Or are we talking coffee grounds and egg shells? A girl has her standards, you kwim? :rotfl:

Well, if I had throw a $10 bill in the trash, I would go out and look in the can for it, so.....if it's not too gross or it's not gone from your house, I would sure give it a try. Good luck! As a suggestion, I always put my items where the cashier has to take off the coupon at the very back so I can watch them do it. Mainly because I have had this happen before and was frustrated.

Well the slip wasn't in the reusable bag so I guess I'll look at the trash bag and see how bad it is. I've been scrimping and scraping to pay off our Disney trip in August so I may be digging in tomorrow. However it will be just my luck I dig in and find it only to find out they had scanned them.
