Couple Plus Child in King Room?

Starting to think of another Fall trip to WDW (our son will be 3.75 by next Fall and he loved the last trip there). The problem is what sort of room to get. My wife and I sort of need a larger bed--queen or king--but the moderate and value resorts only have king rooms with no additional bed. We could manage with a standard bed but it will be uncomfortable.

Last Fall we stayed in a CSR king room and the son slept in a Pack and Play but he is really tall and I don't think he will fit in the Pack and Play this year (he slept great every night in the PnP and napped in it too).

I am also nervous about him sleeping in a regular bed--the motel beds are so high and even with bed rails he will find a way to fall out (he likes to get up at night and wander around some). Is it "legal" to have a child sleep in a king room in a sleeping bag or on a cot? I think he would sleep fine with either option and if he gets up at night there is no chance of falling.

I know the Deluxe resorts have queen beds standard, and the suites are also an option but we are looking at a moderate, or value, or maybe even an off-site option.

The maximum number of people in a king room is 2 plus one child under 3. If you definitely want moderate or value, how about one adult in each bed and take turns sleeping with ds? We split up and sleep with the kids. (Well, mostly because I have sleep with the younger one since she is still night nursing). We went on 2 trips while I was pg with the younger one, and on the nights where I had the bed to myself it was bliss! :cloud9:

What if you got a moderate with two doubles and one of you slept in the bed with ds with the bed rails? Everyone gets a good nights sleep and he will not be able to get up to wander without you knowing. Also - I personally wouldn't reccommend him sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. I am not a germaphobe but - yuck! Also wouldn't he be more comfortable in a bed? I hope you find a good solution! princess:

Okay, it has been a while, but when we first brought my son (in 2000), Disney had actual cribs. I know your DS probably doesn't sleep in one anymore, but if they had that instead of just a portable crib, he would definitely fit.

My suggestion is the same as above- get a full/queen room, so there will be 2 beds and then one of you can sleep with your son and the other alone. That should be a fair amount of room. I wouldn't have my child sleep on the floor. We are going to WDW next week and will have 2 full beds with one adult and one child in each- we will have bed rails on the side of the bed and at the bottom and the adult will be the barrier on the other side.

When we travel, DH takes on bed, with DS & I on another bed. Even when we have 2 queens we do it that way.

It is comfortable for everyone that way.

That is bad news about the King rooms. It seems like WDW is always trying to "upsell" to a King room when I call them, wish they were a bit more flexible about sleeping arrangements.

I forgot to mention--co-sleeping with this kid is not possible. He spends the whole night grabbing, pinching, yanking hair, kicking, climbing, etc. He needs his own space for sure or no one will get any sleep.

Maybe DxL (aka POR) might be the way to go--some of those have trundle beds. This also makes a suite off-site look better. Thanks everyone for the info and ideas.

I am not much of a germophobe but the WDW rooms seem cleaner than our house. He currently sleeps (some times) on a futon on the floor so a sleeping bag on an air matress won't be much different. As the oldest kid I always slept on the floor of motel rooms in a sleeping bag. With 3 kids at least one and usually two got the floor, and I did sleep on a few filthy floors and I turned out fine. Even slept in a sleeping bag on our first visit to WDW in May 1973. I have no idea what motel we stayed at but it wasn't on the property (my family was so cheap we went back to the parking lot at lunch time for a picnic).

The next trip I'd almost consider camping but I was hoping to get the free meal deal and I cannot see tent camping in Florida in August-Sept.

I also forgot to mention, I sort of like being in the same bed with my wife, especially when we are on vacation. pirate:

Dh and I each take a child at night. That way no one falls out and we are all comfy.

Hi Portie

Have you considered the Swan or Dolphin? Awesome resorts and you can get a queen or a king room. Plus the "Heavenly Beds" at the S/D are increadible to sleep on. Our first stay at the Swan was fantasic. We had a king room with a pull out sofa for our DS3. He loved it. I would go there before a moderate any day.

Thanks Andy. I was not thinking about it for a possible trip in Aug-Sept since I think Swan/Dolphin get the free meal plan(??). One thing I like about the moderates are the outdoor corridors and the quick access to the car. The food options at Swan/Dolphin look excellent.

I will look at them for a future trip because they look like nice hotels and I believe I qualify for an educational discount.

My DH and my DS3 are having the same issues with sleeping arrangments. I bought a sleeping bag that has an inflatable matress attached. These are child sized and don't take up a lot of room. I got a Wiggles Big Red Car one that he liked so hopefully he will be excited about sleeping in it. Last time I was a Target, they had a pretty good selection of them. It's really too bad that Disney will not allow families like ours to book king bed rooms!!

To OP, I was just going to suggest the same thing. I got my toddler airbed off Walmart.com. It was Winnie the Pooh. My 3yo DS LOVES it. It is small enough to fit in DH suitcase. We are leaving in 5 days for the Poly and we have 5 (me, DH, DS11, DS8 and DS3). The airbed just gives us a little more "sleeping Space". In addition, COSTCO also carries them for around $19. Hope this helps.

I was also going to suggest this. And if you're not keen on the idea of it being so close to the floor, you can bring along a large blanket to put underneath it. It's not really a sleeping bag per se, since you're elevated off the floor and kind of surrounded by an outer edge, there is little chance of rolling off onto the actual floor. HTH :)
