Hi,
We're thisclose to buying into DVC and I have a couple questions.

1. Let's say you would have to use borrowed points to make a reservation. If you go on a wait list to get the reservation you want, when do those points get borrowed: when you add your name to the wait list or when/if the reservation actually goes through?

2. If you add on points through Disney, are you required to buy the same use year that you already own? I assume that if you buy add-on through a resale place, you can get any use year (based on availability, of course).

Hope these questions made some sense.

Thanks in advance!!!

Points are borrowed when the reservation is actually made. If you cancel the waitlist or it never comes through, the points are never borrowed. The only way to borrow points is to actually make a reservation.

Yes - you are required to buy the same use year when you add on through Disney unless you buy a whole new contract of at least 150 points and insist on getting a different use year.

FWIW, it's easier to manage multiple contracts & resorts if they are all the same use year. That said, many here do it and never miss a beat.

Best wishes -

Thanks, Carol. I appreciate the info.

One more question: if the time comes that you have to sell your points, are your points at the same resort/uy considered one contract or can they be sold separately?

Thanks again. :sunny:

Each contract stands on its own for resale. For example, let's say you bought a 150 point contract for SSR and a 25 point add on for SSR and a 75 point add on at BCV - all directly from Disney. You also bought a 50 point contract for SSR via resale.

You could sell any combination of the contracts I listed in any order. You could sell all but the 50 point SSR contract you bought via resale if you wanted to do it that way. You could even sell all but the 25 point add on that you bought from Disney.

What you can't do, is break up any single contract into smaller pieces. So you couldn't sell 75 points from your intial 150 point contract. You would have to sell it as (all 150 points) or not at all.

Best wishes -
