~Is it worth going to if the party is not interested in the princesses?

~We would go for dinner, is this served family style with samples from each entree, or do we pick 1 entree from those listed?

~Am I correct in assuming that a child under 3 is welcome to eat off a parental plate the same as a buffet?

*Trying to decide between this and Garden Grill, mainly because my 6 year old would much prefer the food here, but I am torn since I think the food at GG sounds really good and he isn't into the princesses.

Opinions may vary, but I'd say no, don't go to Akershus unless you want to meet princesses. We went for breakfast, not dinner, so can't speak to the dinner food, but dinner is each person pick an entree, not family style like breakfast. Service at breakfast was not too good IMO, but could have been just one lousy server or off day or something. Child under 3 is ok to share in all Disney dining AFAIK, certainly ok here.

My opinion is no, not worth it. The food was, well, not to our liking (that's a nice way to say it was gross, right?). There may be people out there who enjoy that type of food. Our party of 9 was not it. BTW, we did the dinner. I have heard the breakfast is much better.

When you go for lunch or dinner, the appitizer is a cold bar with cheeses and meats and salads and fruits. Then for your main entree you choose something off of the menu. Dessert is served family style with samplings of 3 different desserts.

The food was alright. Nothing outstanding but not bad by any means. The food at GG always sounds better then it tastes. I would give the edge in food to Akershus. The character interaction at GG is some of the best in WDW. Chip, Dale, Pluto and Mickey make the rounds and will usually visit your table 2 or 3 times due to the layout of the restaurant. It is also not very loud by character meal standards. Rotating around LWTL is a nice touch.

If you are going to choose based purely on food, I would go with Akershus because the cold appitizers and desserts are much better than anything at GG, IMO. If the princess thing is going to bother the little one and Chip, Dale, Mickey and Pluto would please him better, go with GG.

Buffet style salads, cold cuts, bread...ect... Then you choose an entree. Food was not bad. Pork Chops, chicken...ect

If your child is not into Princesses I would go to GG

Garden Grill had great food and the best character interaction we have every had. Akerhaus is alright, we go for the princess and the food is just food. I would go to Garden Grill in your case.

We really like Akerhaus. We go every year. Akerhaus is more for mommy, while we go to Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace for my little boy, 7. Now that we have a girl, it will be for her too! My son has always enjoyed Akerhaus. We think the food is good. My husband likes the dumpling. The chicken and pork are good too. We like the appitizer buffet. There is alot to chose from. The desserts are really great! Your son might enjoy the princesses, even if he won't admit it. I would say, go to Akerhaus!

It's always interesting to read the differences in opinion- we loved Akershus, and I can't imagine how anyone would say it was "gross". Perhaps an off day? Anyway, none of us- including 8 year old daughter- were very much into the princesses, but we loved this meal anyway!

While one of my worst Disney Dinning experiances I would not discourage you from going there in fact I am going back. The inside is beautiful, and the food was good. I didn't love my dish but I am a picky eater so this happens on occasion. My DH loved my food though and I did love dessert.

My issue there revolved around our waiter who made me feel very ignorant and bad when I asked him a question. I then saw him laughing at me with some other staff, pointing to our table and doing things like puffing out his cheeks. It ruined my meal and in one of the pictures with the princesses I have tears in my eyes. At the time I was so embarrassed that I didn't complain or alert a manager to the situation, we just left. Now I wish I had as I saw him treating at least one other table in the manner he was treating us, and as we were leaving a guest asked a question similar to mine and got treated to an answer pretty much the same as I had.

My husband loves Vikings and such and really enjoyed the decor and so did I. It was pretty, they did a good job. I figure there is no way I am going to run in to that waiter again because they are all there on the exchange thing so I decided to go back. We are just going to have breakfast but my DH will be happy.

Anyway I would say if you are inclined to go ahead and go. I would not so oh just go to GG because I think you are in Epcot try some of the yummy food they have there that varies a little from what all the other restaurants have. We really enjoyed Biergarten and they have a really fun show they do. Have you considered them?

We've been to Akershus a number of times and really the food just isn't very good and gets less and less authentic every time we have gone. If you really want to see Princesses it is a beautiful building but I definitely wouldn't go there over GG.

I would love to try dinner there but DH says the Princesses come on to him too much :lmao:

Seriously, the character interaction is amazing....we have been to breakfast twice before and the two of us and our two nieces loved it. The only reason we did breakfast is because the girls are picky eaters and would not enjoy the lunch or dinner offerings.

This reflects our experiences as well, and we didn't even have any kids with us. The salmon dinner was one of the best entrees we've had anywhere on property.

I would say it's nice to eat there if you *don't care* about the princesses, but if your DS actively *does not want* to see them, eat at GG.

It's been a long time since I ate at GG, but as I remember the food quality was fine, but I don't really like that sort of food; I much prefer the food at Akershus. (GG used to have an amazing breakfast that was totally worth doing, it was easily the best character meal on property, but they stopped it. :( )

IMO, the food at lunch and dinner at Akershus is just so-so. There are much better restaurants in the WS and if the characters are not important I would choose another one. That said, we are going to try breakfast there in December because my daughters love the princesses!

Been to both and enjoyed both very much, food and characters! However, for your situation, I'd go with Garden Grill purely for your son. He's going to enjoy seeing Mickey/Pluto/Chip N Dale much more than the princesses. The food, IMO, is very good at both places, but GG is more "standard" fare (good and fresh) but not very different. While at PSD, you're going to deal with more unique foods and at least in my experience, doesn't always appeal to the littler ones! ;) However, if I had girls rather than boys, the PSD would be a must-do for us. But since we have boys, we go with GG!!! :)

The same way I can't imagine anyone saying it was edible, I guess. To each there own; obviously that is not the country we would go to for food. It was not an 'off-day' , I'm sure it tastes like that every day (and this from someone who absolutely LOVES Boma). We did not go for the food, we went for Ariel.
