Hi all!!

I've been lurking here for a number of years now. We just booked our first trip to Disney since 2008! (Star Wars weekend May 21-28) This will be my daughter's (6) first trip, the first trip my middle child (DS9) will remember and the third trip for my oldest (DS 11). I have to say, I am too excited! We are staying at Caribbean Beach for the first time and I hope we like it. We plan to surprise the kids and I'm already planning how we will do it. I love watching all the videos surprising kids with Disney trips. Some are just absolutely precious! I would love to wake them up the morning of playing Disney music and tell them to pack their bags, but I'm afraid I can't hold it in that long!!! Anybody do anything fun to surprise their little ones with a Disney trip???

I love the idea of a surprise trip, but no way that I could hold it in that long!

We have always wanted to go during SW Weekends. I'm a SW fan, but DH and DS are SW maniacs!

Welcome to the boards, I just joined recently myself!

I surprised my kids once. I can't remember exactly how old they were, I think around 5 and 9. I didn't really start out planning to surprise them but DH and I were on the fence as to if we would really take the trip so I didn't want to tell them and get their hopes up. By the time we decided that we would go it was pretty close to trip time so we decided to just surprise them. We were driving so just told them about a week in advance that we were going to Grandma's which was about 6 hours away at the time. I packed most of their clothes and things anyway so they just had to get together their personal fun stuff for in the car.

DH and I weren't really sure when we were going to tell them the truth but figured we would see what happened. My 9 year old is pretty smart and several hours in started to mention that this didn't look like the way to Grandma's house! Finally at about the 6 hour mark we stopped at a rest stop near the state line and DH and I agreed that we weren't going to be able to convince her that we were just taking a different route any longer! I had made up some gift bags with their Mickey ears, a new Disney t-shirt and a few other little Disney toys and snacks and he put them in their car seats so when we got back to the car they found them. They were certainly surprised! It was fun and we had a great trip.

I think we may try to do something fun when our magic bands come in. That way, they can count down and be as excited as I already am!!!! :dancer: I wanted to wake them up the morning of and tell them, but trying to pack stealthily for 5 people would be hard!

we are planning a trip in november. it will be my eldest sons(20) first time. my husband and other 2 kids (ds 12 and dd15) and i went for the first time last yr for a quick mk halloween party and it was amazing. we are surprising our 2 youngest with this trip. right now our kids think my husband and i are going away for a couple of nights while their older brother comes to stay with them. we are going to let them get ready for school and when they are all dressed and ready to walk in the cold to the bus stop we're going to hand them their wrapped gifts, which are going to be magic bands and disney t-shirts. we have a trip planned next year with extended family, so my husband and i can talk about disney a little without raising suspicion. luckily they don't listen to us much anyways! i am worried about their schoolwork, our school won't give upcoming homework to discourage trips like this, so hopefully this won't hurt them. good luck with keeping the secret! it is hard not to just shout out "we're going to disney world!!" especially when they're being brats!:rotfl:

I wish I could pull mine out of school for a trip, buy my middle child struggles so it's best if we plan during breaks. :worship: My husband and I talk in code about Disney and I'm always afraid my oldest will catch on. It's hard to hold it all in! When I think about the looks on their faces when we tell them we are going and the thought of when my daughter sees the castle for the first time, makes me tear up. It will all be worth the wait, I just hope I don't explode before then. I hope you guys have a great trip! November will be a nice time to visit.

I have tried twice to surprise my little boys, and have failed both times! I just can't keep something so fun a secret for more than a month. I love those videos of parent who surprise their kids the day of, but I just cant make it that long.

I'm trying to hold it in, but I'm not sure I'll make it. o_O

Our parents surprised us in the 90's and that video is one of our favorite memories. They came in to our room in the morning with a mickey watch that played 'its a small world' and woke us up to go. At this point, our next trip is a year away. I haven't decided if i'm "surprising" my son or just waiting until the last minute to tell him so I don't have to hear him ask if its time to go for the next 400 days! LOL when it gets closer, I may tell him...if i cant hold it in! Once something gets booked and it becomes more real, then i will have a hard time keeping quiet. For now, we made a disney fund bank together, and hes excited enough to put dollars in here and there. So, hes aware we are trying to go sometime. I would LOVE to video telling him, but not sharing the excitement building as the countdown lowers would be so hard. I hope you can figure out something cute and get it on video!

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing with Disney music to wake them up and we also made Disney banks that they have been putting their coins into!!!! Waking them up to be go would be ideal, but secretly packing bags for 5 people for a week long vacation would be the hard part. I think once the magic bands come in I'll cave and surprise them then. That way they can have the same excited anticipation as I do! :yay:
