Its only rude if you point to that person and say "your fat", if you are making a general observation about someone who IS fat, then no of course it isn't rude. There are fat people in the world, just like there are blonds, or blue eyed people, pointing out obvious traits is not rude unless you are using it in a deragotory way towards that person, which I stated in another of my posts that obviously you missed.

Yeah, have to disagree with you on that one because I don't think anyone is going to point at a blond person in public and say "Look she's blond". Unless you are pointing out traits of everyone that you see, then pointing at a fat person and saying "look at that fat person" does become deragatory even if it is a true statement. Why even point it out if it's just a trait?

See, I feel exactly the same way about the LVs. Normally, I carry purses that are understated and that don't have logos all over them; the exceptions I've made are for a pink D&B It bag that I bought because a) I love pink, and b) it reminded me of a big frosted cupcake with little sprinkles all over it. And I also have a Disney D&B white tassel tote because it's Disney and it's super freaking cute! Other than those 2, mine are all leather D&B or Coach because they last for YEARS. I have my first-ever Coach bag still--it's solid navy blue, I bought it in 1993, and the only logo is from the leather tag that dangles from a little ball chain near the strap and OMG, the leather is so soft after all these years that you could just smush your face into it.

I get what you are saying and I don't disagree 100% because there really isn't always reason to point out that a person is fat. However that does not mean that is never a reason. Like a pp said, things aren't always said with malintent, sometimes they are just the facts.

A woman weighng 300 lbs walks by and she's carrying a fake LV purse. She is walking with woman 130lbs carrying a real one, and you say "That fat, large, obese, whatever your term of choice is, woman is carrying a fake LV purse. Not rude, a fact used to distinguish the woman from her companion and not rude to point out a fake purse.

I never commented on the OP, I responded to a PP.

Strange appearance, maybe, but what they own or if it real or fake, that's not important to me. My sisters are like that, and it's always turned me off.

I grew up in the Fashion capital of the world, and was so sick of the importance that was put into what someone wears. I actually was THRILLED to come to Georgia, a place where I always say "the fashion police has no precincts!!"

I remember going back to NY one day and being told how my lipstick was not OUT and the length of my skirt was so "yesterday".... I RAN back to Georgia, a place I'm not thrilled with but I can afford and no one makes such a big deal about what's IN and OUT.

It's a personal thing for me. I always said that I'd never be able to identify a person on a line up, but I COULD tell you his attitude, not what he looked like. Growing up in a totally VISUAL household made me resent it.

Yes but if you are so schooled in fake vs. real LV purses, the fact that the woman with the fake is fat shouldn't matter. You should be able to spot the fake without the fat, right?

Sorry, but no matter how you spin it, if you are pointing out something that is out of the ordinary, being fat, purple or fake, it's rude. Why else would you point it out? Let's try this another way, would you point out a woman in a wheelchair and say "look, a woman in a wheelchair" It's a trait of hers so that must make it ok for you to make a remark about it.

Please don't get me wrong, of course I do things like this, but I freely admit to being rude. And fat. Do not carry fake LV purses, however, so you would just be pointing to my fatness. Thankfully you are not being rude when doing it, however, so that makes me feel much better about pointing it out to your friend.

Now after I get my nose job and its a cute little button nose and nowhere as big as pinnochio's any longer I may be offended and feel its a bit rude.

Sorry, this is just borderline ridiculous (my nose comment). I don't subscribe to the ultra PC notion that we can't so much mention a negative fact about someone without it meaning we are being rude. Again, a fact is a fact, good, bad or ugly its still a fact.

I agree, your big nose isn't any different than my large behind.
It isn't the fact that is rude, it's that you feel the need to point it out. Just because it's there doesn't mean that you have to say it. Not sure where you are getting this is ultra PC, I'm just thinking there is no need for you to point out my large behind and no need for me to point out your large nose to anyone. Or my counterfeit bag.

I agree. It isn't that we all need to point these things out, it's just that we do. Why else do folks like to 'people watch'? To observe things - and yes, comment on them if the thought pops up! I don't know anybody who doesn't comment on things they observe.
