Hi- i was wondering if the counter services are also doing away with chicken nuggets, fries, hot dogs for the new kids menus??? Anyone know?I sure hope not.
Kim

We just got back yest. and I know during our trip there were still nuggets and fries. One CS that I went to offered hot dogs but I can't remember which one it was.

I'm sure we'll see healthier menus at the CS eateries eventually, but unfortunately they haven't started making those changes yet.

Do you have kids? If you do do you let them eat chicken nuggets ever? Why can I as an adult eat all the chicken strips(nuggets) I want but my kids can not.

I'll allow you to eat what you want. What our little ones eat is subject to their mother's discretion! And the healthier, the better!

I am reading all this about kids menus being limited now and getting a little concerned. We are booked for Aug 07 with free DDP. my DS(7) is not the worlds best eater and on holiday I dont mind how healthy or unhealthy he eats - it is 2 weeks out of his life and supposed to be fun. I hope they have fries, burgers, hot dogs etc on the kids menus or I will be finding the nearest MacDonalds or BK and paying OOP.

I agree there should be a healthy option for those that want it but why cant the kids be offered foods that (lets face it) the majority of them like and prefer.

The real issue is that in order to keep costs from spiraling out of control, the number of choices will be kept relatively consistent. So if you add anything, then you'll clearly removed something, so the result is the same number of choices. When you sub in something very different than what was available before (i.e., healthy choices) then you end up with an increase in variety, which is great. FWIR, there are still places to get the less healthy food, and many places offer some of both alternatives.

We just got back and we just generally ordered 2 adult CS meals for the 4 of us. In some places, younger ds wanted the kids meal (Cosmic Rays has chicken nuggets, corn dogs, chicken noodle soup, garden salad w/ chicken and maybe one other I can't remember). I know he loves the m&c at Electric Umbrella in EPCOT.

That said, when I ordered the kids meal, you are given the option of 2 our of 3 sides. Those are grapes, unsweetened applesauce or carrots. You can also have french fries, if you ask for them. They advertise that drinks are low fat milk, apple juice or a small bottle of water. I was able to get him a bottle of OJ at the ABC Commissary and at Cosmic Rays. When I declined the sugar free jello dessert, at a couple of places I was offered any of the desserts w/ the kids meal. Some places had a fruit bowl, which was a good choice for everyone (since I usually don't want dessert w/ lunch, given the amount of food I'll eat for dinner).

We really didn't encounter too many problems. When something didn't appeal, then I ordered an adult chicken strips basket. It comes w/ 3 large white meat chicken strips and a bunch of fries. Easily shared w/ a younger child, especially if you get fruit for your dessert.

Whether this will change again before our February trip, I can't say. I think we'll be fine w/ CS meals, but if they tighten up the menus for kids at all of the EPCOT restaurants, I might age older ds up to 10 (we'll be there for his 9th birthday).

Hi,Got this yesterday from the Editor in Chief Deb Wills of All Ears Net who just returned this week from WDW
-- A couple restaurant managers told me that Disney has heard
loud and clear the complaints from parents about the new,
restrictive, kids' menus. They will be morphing into yet another
version in the next couple months, with supposedly a few more
choices for kids. :cool1:
Also talked to quite a few families who just returned and had no problem getting Chix Fingers, Fries, hamburgers and other items for their kids that were not listed in the Child Menu Choices.
My son , who is PDD and some oral sensory issues finds it calming to have familiar foods while at new and stimulating places, so if Chix finger and fries make him a happy little mouseketeer while at WDW then so be it. It is just 6 days out of 365 that he will eat this way and I sure won't be dining on raw veggies and lemon water each meal either. W go by the 80-20 method. Make good food choice 80% of the time and you can indulge with no guilt the other 20%. WDW will be our 20%.
When I look around it seems the adults are the ones that need more guidance in choosing food than the kiddos.
Give me crab cakes, steak and Creme Brulee and my thin active healthy 5 and 7 year old cold chicken and an apple. I don't think so.... :Pinkbounc

I agree, my ds 12 is a very picky eater. When he's at home, I demand he eat a certain amount of veg (which he gags down), and pretty balanced meal otherwise.

Actually aside from the chicken nuggets, his choices are not that unhealthy, plain rice, plain chicken, plain cheese pizza. Doesn't eat cakes or a lot of that other stuff.

When we are on vacation, I want to relax too. I eat things I wouldn't otherwise, and I don't want every meal to be a war zone. Its only two weeks a year. I don't think its up to disney what my kids eat.

This argument is a complete non starter. It IS NOT that expensive to keep chicken strips on hand, and you can get ones with zero trans fats for baking. The overall calorie and fat content on the ones my son eats is less than the mac and cheese or burger they have.

Any children's place that doesn't have chicken strips on hand is completely clueless, and DIsney is getting a big wake-up call from parents now.

I think you're mistaken on a couple of levels. First, as I've mentioned before, I don't believe you know what does affect a restaurant's cost structure, so we'll just have to agree to disagree about that issue. Second, I don't believe Disney is at all surprised about the amount of response they've gotten with respect to these changes. Companies often get significant responses to such changes, and their hope is that the responses are normalized and informational enough to indicate what minor adjustments would be appropriate.

If EVERY OTHER FAMILY RESTAURANT ON THE PLANET can offer chicken strips on their menu without going out of business because of cost concerns, WDW can as well.

The note from Deb Wills suggest that these changes ARE being noticed by the public, and creating nightmare scenarios for both parents and the restaurants being subjected to them.

Just gotta say "sugar free jello"?!

I don't think I would let my kid eat those chemicals! Blech!

AS I have said over and over and Disney DOES read these boards.

Noone dictates to me what I ALLOW my kids to have. The last time I checked I was the parent. When I am on vacation or at home it is subject to my discretion.

I leave in less than a week, And I figure this will be my cheapest trip yet. I had several onsite Dining reservations. NONE of which I did keep.

as far as future trips. again I will not be spending my money in the parks. I have DVC and will be utilizing the kitchen's in future villas.

I don't like the thought of my kids having all of the artificial sweeteners either - I don't allow my kids to drink diet soda just for that reason. Children with diabetes may need these items but most don't.

And if Disney can start using the trans fat free chicken nuggets it's a win-win situation all around. Like it was mentioned - most families restaurants have already figured out how to accomplish serving kid friendly foods that parents approve of and have not gone out of business. When I emailed Disney on this subject, I noted how well Bob Evans restaurants do their kids meals. Granted, they actually give possibly too many options but if you look closely at their side options, they are just scaled back versions of what is offered for the adults (corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, etc. vs. only french fries). This way, if my kids have had too much 'junk food' I can require that they pick something else but at least there are SOME options. I'm not a restaurant accountant, but I can't imagine how this could significantly hurt the bottom line - and it if does, charge a me a few bucks more and make me happy! It's not like a Disney vacation is for the budget conscious to begin with.
