It took me about 2 days to catch on to this, and I felt stupid for not realizing it sooner.
At EVERY counter service place I ate in any of the 4 theme parks, there are 2 lines per cashier. Most people line up on the cashier's left, but there are 2 lines per cashier, one one each side of the cashier's little island. So if you see 5 cashiers, there are 10 lines! The cashiers alternate between lines -- they take the order and payment of the next person on their left, and then go and take the order and payment of the next person on the right, and so on.
When I first started noticing this, I wasn't sure exactly what I was seeing. I'd be behind 8 other people in line, then someone would walk up to the cashier to the cashier's right, give their order, then proceed to the counter to get their food. I thought they were cutting in line and the cashier was letting them. Turns out it's just the Disney way of doing things.
So if you're at a counter service restaurant and see long SINGLE lines at the cashiers, just confidently walk to any cashier's other side and you will be served next.
I wish I'd known this before I went last month. Enjoy this tip!
