Wow. I can't believe how the line cutting topic I started took off. Let me try one with a slightly different spin.

At a counter service restaurant where there are several people waiting in line all on one side of the cashier, do you get in line behind them or go to the other side of the cashier? Any time a counter service cashier is open, both sides of their line are usually open. The cashier alternates taking orders from one side to the other. I usually consider this an advantage of knowing the system and go to the side without a line. However, at the same time, there's always a little twinge of guilt in doing this.

Am I evil, or just using Disney knowledge to my best advantage?

I always go to the side with no line. I consider it "just using my Disney knowledge." :thumbsup2

I would also. I have the same issue at functions where the buffet line is intended to go on both sides of the table....people are like lemmings, they just follow the person in front of them, even if it's the longest line!!!
I like to think that I'm using my Disney knowledge at those counter service lines. What we do is to split up...my dh stands in the longer line, I go to the empty side, and ask the cashier if they are taking orders from this side also. If so, my dh joins me in that line...usually followed by several others that were in front of him in that line!!!

I would consider it one of those places where the line splits into 2 lanes -- often even on rides people follow others and fill up one of the lines and leave the other one somewhat open. Plus, going to the other side reduces the size of the line, thus clearing up space in the restaurant!

I would definately go to the empty side!

I found that to happen a ton during bag checks before entering the park, long lines on one side of the table, and empty on the other.

You will probably shorten several of those people's waits in line, when the switch lines to follow you, so, you're actually being helpful!

I go to the shorter side, just like I do when a ride queue splits. On IASW, there was a line split, and we went left while tons of people went right. Well, no one followed us to the left, and after we were loaded onto our boat, the CM directing riders for our line looked all puzzled and started back up the ramp to see if anyone was coming. Finally, someone made there way down the left side. All those dodos in the right-side line still waiting.
