Counter Service & DHS

I have done all of the research and found more than enough table service meals to use up my dining plan credits (and then some!) and I have a little mental list going of places I might like to try for cs or snacks in the parks...except for DHS!

Nothing sounded completely appealing to me for TS in DHS (I considered Sci Fi Drive In, but I have read some poor food-reviews and it doesn't look like it offers much bang for your buck - however if people classify it as can't-miss for the atmosphere, we would certainly be open to paying OOP to try it out)

Anyway, I figured we would likely do a couple CS meals on our DHS day. Anyone have any favorites?

Me: vegetarian
Her: 3 year old (but with varied tastes, I would certainly not classify her as a picky eater)
Him: a true omnivore..he literally will try anything!

I guess that mostly means I am the picky one - so where would you suggest a vegetarian & her non-vegetarian family head for lunch or dinner at DHS? Thanks all!

DHS lacks in the counter service area...First we stay away from the ABC....Have been twice and the food was bad and worse...

You might make out with Pizza Planet...Cheese pizza will work for a non-meat eater...Child should also like it....You get a side salad if you get the individual pizza the dining plan...There is lots of seating upstairs and some very nice seating outside...Now the pizza is not the greatest but better then the food at the other places in DHS.

Studio Catering Company has some outstanding sandwiches. I think a lot of people don't realize it's there when saying DHS has bad counter service. Also Backlot Express has a few decent things, but their menu seems to change. ABC is universally hated and Pizza Planet is the same garbage pizza at every other park, but other than that, the counter service at DHS is fine.

We really love Sci-Fi, we keep it simple, bacon cheeseburger is fabulous! The shakes are great too & the onion rings. The atmosphere is wonderful, this is the only must-do dining according to my kids. It's cool and dark in there so relaxing, we love it.

We had a great time and great food at 50s Prime Time and also good food at Starring Rolls for breakfast and lunch or snack.

I agree 100%. This is the only must-do dining for my entire family in all of Disney world. The atmosphere is amazing and the burgers, onion rings and shake are great. We do pay oop since my dd and I share the burger plus the food is pretty reasonable.

I have read on disboards that starring rolls has some really good sandwiches and deserts so we may try it this year.

Pizza Planet--you can get a salad, your DD can get pizza. I think the pizza is good there, but I'm in the minority.

DHS isnt really known for counter service.... but i can thouroughly recommend Starring rolls. they have lovley sandwiches (very filling) and to die for desserts. also serve sushie. the only downside is that the kids only option is a pb+j encrustable, so i would get the adult meals to go, and get dd something from sunset blv. not sure about the veggie options from starring rolls, but you can always check out the menus on Dis or allears

In the past I've had a tasty veggie whole wheat pita pocket at Starring Rolls. They seem to run out of those quickly though.

pizza planet is the only place I like to eat in DHS. I don't eat meat (although the occasional chicken and turkey keep me from vegetarian) I like to eat there because I get pizza and a salad. Not the best salad but it works.

We usually leave and take one of the resort buses and eat at a random resort each time.

Starring Rolls and Fairfax Fare are our 2 fav CS joints in DHS...

For TS at DS we will do either 50's Prime Time or Mama Melrose, but our favorite TS for dinner is to take the boat from DS to the Boardwalk and eat at Kouzzina, then back to DS. It takes more time, but the boat ride is incredibly relaxing and we really, really like Kouzzina.

CS at DS? There was a BBQ place over by the entry way to Fantasmic that smelled fantastic- but we didn't eat there.

My favortie counter service locations at Hollywood Studios is ABC Commissary and Backlot Express.

Another vote for Starring Rolls - the sandwiches are wonderful and filling and the desserts are simply amazing! Just remember that they close at 4:00 pm - we missed it last year and were so disappointed.

Anaheim Produce has the best snacks. As for QS Rosie's All American Cafe has a veggie burger.
