Counter service at OKW

Your options to expand the area is limited. Take out/reduce the size of community hall, Gurgling Suitcase, or the already small work-out room. The other option would be to shift everything down, and remove the showers/changing rooms.

Yet the third option would be to eliminate Papa's Den next to the check-in desk. But it is used quite a bit by people waiting for their room to be made ready and sit and relax.

We actually have the Dining Plans to thank for the limited selection at Good's to Go. It was originally designed both as a snack bar and was also a take out window for Olivia's. But they eliminated being able to order Olivia's food there because of the DDP.

Counter service is pretty limited at all the DVC resorts, and only recently improved at the Disney Deluxe class cash resorts.

Good's is really pretty sad and we only ever go as a total "last resort" so I'd love to see a better dining option at OKW since the resort is so large! It's still our favorite resort though!

Who would like to see a larger counter service at OKW with more food options or even a food court type set-up?

Nope, it's fine to me. Don't use it that much anyway and my dues would probably have to pay for it. None of the deluxe resorts have "food courts" like the moderates and value resorts.

they had a building that was the sales center. It had an ice cream parlor/play area where our daughter stayed while we talked to the sales person. They tore that down to put in more units. It was across Peninsular from the main building I believe. That would have been perfect but they felt they needed more units to sell.
It's just that Goods to Go just can't service that size resort. I think it was really there to give people at the pool a place to grab a quick bite and not really a counter sevice option.

I think the Deluxe and DVC resorts want you to go for the more expensive table service.

We love OKW, but the lack of good (healthy) counter service food is our only complaint. We are trying SSR this summer instead and hoping for better food choices.

Since OKW was the first DVC, they thought people would actually use the kitchens in the villas. And that's what a lot of people do. Until the darned dining plan came about.

When they tore down the Commodore House and built the extra units there was a big demand for more OKW points. I know we asked our guide at the time about when we could buy more. And when they built 62, 63 and 64 we did buy another 75 points. DVC didn't make money on selling people food. They made money selling points.

Goods to Go was never meant as more than pool side food/snacks.

I think the quick service at SSR is great! That's what I would like to see at OKW.

But I doubt that will ever happen. It would require major renovation at the Hospitality House. Like tearing out Olivia's, add a counter service like Artists Palette to the store area, and then try to rebuild Olivia's.

The ones at Jambo and contemporary are pretty good as far as deluxe counter services go. I would like to see something like this at all the deluxe resorts

In the past, when staying at OKW, we've often driven over to POR and POFQ to eat in their food courts for a change. However, since I've recently heard reports of people being turned away at POR without TS reservations, I don't know what we'd do. I'd love to see the CS at OKW expand, at least a little.

This is a 5 yo thread. Now, as then, I do not want to see a Food Court like Area for DVC.

at okw, Where do you find and refill the mugs that come with the dining plan ?

Goods to Go is a refill Station, and I think The Turtle Shack by the Turtle Pond pool will refill them if they are open.

You can get the mugs at the store and Goods to Go might also have them there. Turtle Shack is open seasonally, so it has shorter hours and some days it is closed.

We find OKW to not be the best location for refillable mugs. We just fill up our refrigerator with our favorite beverages.

Yeah, we got them last time and got them refilled a couple times at Turtle shack as our room was right there, but I think the only way they are a good buy here is if you are going to be at the main pool every day.
