I have found the counter height stools that I like and I just assumed that they are all a fixed height. The stools that I am looking at however come in two counter height sizes; 24.5 inch and 26 inch. An inch and a half doesn't sound like a big deal but if I were sitting two low at a counter or an island it might feel 'strange'. What is really the standard height?

OK, Dawn, I hope I did this right ... I have a island in the middle of my kitchen and one side of the island is for two stools.

From the island counter top to the floor; it is 37 inches and my stools that I bought are 24.5 inches.

HTH.

That is one of the options. Are you comfortable at that height? How you would feel if you were an inch and a half higher? (sounds like a silly question) I hate when there is a choice!;)

Ok, I just went and actually pulled out the stool and sat in it ... (never have before) haha, anyway, yes, I could easily go higher and still have room for my knees.

My stools are 24.5 and at 5'8" I am comfortable at that height and would not want the stools to be any higher.

26 is considered counter height.

30 is considered bar height.

That is very nice of you to offer, but don't bother. I am 5'6 too. I think what I will do before I order them is to go the kitchen cabinet place. I think they have stools there. I sat on something while ordering my cabinets but of course I didn't pay attention. I can bring a book to sit on to see the difference between the two. I would hate to spend the $$ and not be comfortable with the height. I was just surprised when the furniture store called with a price and said, which counter height?:confused3. We have a breakfast bar now but the kitchen was here. Its a "European kitchen" (metric) which is 3/4 an inch higher than a usual counter. When we moved in over 20 years ago, I bought counter height so they must have been 24 and they felt too low so there wasn't an option for 26, so we have 30 inch. A bit high but I got used to them. That breakfast bar along with the 1985 cabinets are going.

Oh, good you see them!!! Ok, ya, now those are 24.5 ... so I could go easily to 26 inches!!!

The stools are from WalMart!!! I looked around a bit, saw these, the colors matched and that was that!!! I think they were $40.00 each!!!

Hey! My DSis has those stools in her kitchen. :thumbsup2

Dawn, do the higher, 26" stools have squishy cushions, that when you sit in them they flatten down to 24.5 inches?

Wood seats! Of course if I keep eating, I could squish them down to 24.5 inches.

Dawn the seat height on my island stools are 27"

Actually 30" is bar height.

Yea, my brain died. Sorry about that.

And actually now that I looked at the product books from my old job... 24" was not even an option. I would go with the 26" ones.

Yikes. So many sizes. Are you comfortable at that height? At a bar or at an island, I think I would like to be up a little higher than if I were seated at a table. I am going to have to try them out.

My bar stools are like a dinning room chair just taller meaning I have a full cushion seat. I just sat at my dinning room chair & the island & I am at the same height. I also checked again & it is 26" sorry I must have mistyped or looked at the angle wrong the first time

Problem solved! I just got back from the cabinet store and his stools are 24 inches. I sat on a phone book to give me 26 inches and I was more comfortable at that height so 26 inches is the plan. Thanks for your help.
