Has anyone here made a countdown to DL calender for their kids? If so, what did it look like? I want to make something the kids can mark off each day. I want it to give the number of days until the trip. Kind of like a backwards calendar or something. If anyone has any pics please post. I am not very crafty or creative.

Last year I made a 30 day countdown board for our trip to WDW with the help of my youngest DD. I cut out 1/2 circle and glued them onto a piece of poster board, I sort of made them into a cup so I could put a small piece of paper inside each one so that the girls could pull out a piece everyday. Some would say, watch a disney movie as a family tonight, some choose three things you want to do at magic kingdom, animal kingdom, etc., Do a scrap book page from our last trip...and so forth. As it got closer to the day of leaving the pieces said make a snack list for your carry one, make a packing list, etc. I decorated the board with various Disney stickers.

This year I blew up an inner tube and filled plastic easter eggs with notes, each day the girls open an egg and read the note and do what it says. This is pretty good for a 14 year old and an 11 years old.

I can't post pictures, but would of the board if I could.

Good luck and make it fun!

Yeah! I figured out how to post a picture!!!:yay: :yay:

Sorry it is so small, I haven't figured that out yet...LOL

It is sort of like an advent calendar...you could do a disney sticker in each circle also since your kids are smaller...when they get to the end it is time to go see Mickey!!!

Before the countdown we have stickers already on the days we will be at disneyland.

That way she knows when we reach those stickers we will be leaving to go.

My DH and I have put together different countdown calendars for our kids over the years. We have put them on colorful paper with the number of days until we go. They would tear off a day at a time. We would put a disney pic of something or have a silly saying that a character usually says on each day. My kids loved these. I'm sorry but I don't have any pictures of this. We took pics of the first ones that we made, but that was before our digital camera. (Over 10 years ago)

2 1/2 years ago I cut out a Mickey mouse head shape out of black construction paper and taped it high up on the wall between my kids' rooms. We then made a chain which looped around the wall and ended at Mickey's head. Each day, they took turns removing a chain, so they could physically see the "mouse" getting closer. I just decided to leave Mickey up there and put a new chain up whenever we were getting close to our next trip. But my daughter says she wants me to surprise her for our next trip (she got a kick out of watching kids on YouTube get Disney surprises). But I won't get to do my chain!!!! Arg.

What I did was stock up on Mickey Mouse heads at Home Depot. I then took them off the cardboard that they were on, numbered them, and put them aside until I was in a creative mood. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a large lime green piece of poster board. I wrote on it the Date of the trip, and then put a pic of Stitch that I had cut out (thanks Rumblytumbly) in the middle, and glued the Mickey Mouse heads around it. It is a 45 day countdown calendar, and looks not bad. The kids can take off one Mickey Mouse head a day until the trip. You can be as creative as you want, and every calendar is a good calendar, as it's something that you created for the trip. Have a great day!!:flower3:

I recommend looking at the Creative DISigns section of this board. If you search, or post a question about a countdown calendar, I'm sure someone has created one or will create one for you. (For free in case you didn't know.)

So, I know you can use a computer, right? I make mine on the computer and print them. Then my kids just put an X through the day. This way you can count down backward too. I did 2 months on one page until the final month. On the last month I started the countdown at 14 days. I have kids of all ages and this works well for us cause the older kids remind the younger how many days- since they can't read yet!
