It's 26 days out and I am a little anxious about my trip to Paris... I haven't been out of the United States/North America in probably 43 years (I was 7). And my parents had to think of everything then.. Well, now I have to think of things... I am worried about missing something. Aside from clothes and personal toiletries, here's what's on my check list:

  • 1. Passport (in carry on)
  • 2. Disneyland reservation (to be printed out) - with Express check in.
  • 3. Electric outlet adapters - 1 with room for 3 plugs and 1 with 4 usb connections
  • 4. Euros (will get at bank before trip)
  • 5. Airline ticket
  • 6. Friend already purchased a metro pass and a museum pass for our time in Paris.
  • 7. Dining reservations at Chez Remy and Silver Spur.

Will I have any problems taking prescription drugs into the France? Do they need to be in their bottles or can I put the pills in a pill case?

What am I missing? I feel like there needs to be more for an international trip.

Medical and travel insurance - Health care is a lot cheaper than in the US but it's not free

Copies of your prescriptions are always wise when you are travelling with medication and if you need them replacing - I carry all of mine in boxes when we go away

agree with PP definitely get travel and medical insurance. I would never travel to a different country without travel insurance.

For TSA regulations make sure you only have bottles and liquids under 2 oz / 100ml in your carry on luggage. This includes things like deodorant, sun screen, make up, liquid medication, toothpaste, as well as drinks. They should all be in a clear plastic bag which goes through the scanner separately.

For long haul flights, I bring a travel neck pillow and flight socks. The flight socks are recommended for long flights to prevent deep vein thrombosis, Im sure you can buy a cheap pair in a drugstore. Some people bring a sleep mask and ear plugs.

I photocopy my passport and bring one copy with me and leave one copy with someone at home. I also photo copy all my travel documents, flight itinerary, hotel confirmations etc, and again bring one copy with me and leave a copy with someone at home. Its always wise to have a copy of your flight itinerary with you as some airport immigration ask to see your return flight information.

On the plane you will be given an entry form to fill out, so make sure you have a pen and your travel documents within easy reach during the flight.

When I travel to America I always bring a small first aid kit with me
1. Your over the counter pain killer of choice - European over the counter pain killers have different names and as your are going to France, over the counter painkillers may not have English on the packaging
2. Re hydration sachets and anti nausea tablets - long haul travel combined with excitement and stress and different foods and different drinks results in holiday tummy.....
3. Plasters / band aids for blisters, sore feet etc
4. Small packets of tissues / kleenex, and face wipes, they come in handy for all sorts of reasons

Thank you Carrie_Cat, I'll see what I can do about getting copies of my prescriptions. I don't know what to do about medical and travel insurance.. I have medical already that covers me out of country

Wonderful ideas.. thank you. The first aid kit is always part of my 'personal toiletries.' As someone who goes to Disney A LOT I know about blisters! HA! Didn't think about the pain killers.. I guess tylenol is not always tylenol in other countries ;) I should give some serious consideration to "holiday tummy" as I am not an adventurous eater and being used to a diet of burgers and fries (basically), I may encounter more 'exotic' spices and foods.

Yes the over the counter medicines and pain killers have different names. I had never heard the name tylenol until I started visiting America, we have paracetamol and ibuprofen :) Oh gosh defiantly look into travel insurance. Different companies may cover different things but in general travel insurance covers
1. if you need to cancel or cut short your trip ie have to return home early
2. If your bags are damaged, lost or stolen, this also includes things like stolen cash or credit card fraud. stolen or lost passport and emergency passport
3. If you get injured
4. Travel delays, cancelled flights , missed flights due to industrial action ( FYI the French love to go on strike!!)
5. Third party insolvency ie if your hotel or transportation company goes out of business

Just research different companies and what they offer on different policies, what I have listed many not be covered on all ploicies
