Well dear friends we are going into the final week. One week from today we will be done with the 5K.

The training is over, don't try to catch up anything you missed. The coming week is for loading your weapons. You need to go into the race rested, well hydrated and well fed. This is not the time to try to diet off those last few pounds, it is time to get those muscles ready.

Eat lots of complex carbs.

Drink lots of water.

Gentle stretching everyday, DO NOT TRY ANY NEW STRETCHES YOU HAVE NOT DONE BEFORE>

Make sure you have extra shoes if you are doing 2 or more races, even if it doesn't rain you don't want damp shoes to start your second race.

Take a multi vitamin every day to insure you are not deficient in any trace minerals or vitamins.

Relax, strive for a little extra sleep each day, if you can go to bed a little earlier and get up a little earlier to prepare for the wee hours bus ride and start.

Prepare to have a huge time, we will all healp each other get through the tough spots and party together after it's over.

Thanks Panda! I am so so SO excited that we are in the home stretch! I can't believe it is next weekend! I feel so ready. I *know* I can do this! I am thankful for all the encouragement I've gotton on this board in the last year. And will be so proud to be wearing my lime green WISH shirt as I run!

At 7:30 this morning, as my DH and I were leaving the house for our "last" 6-miler, I looked at him and said...

"Around this time next week we will be going through the Magic Kingdom...halfway to the finish line"

He just looked at me and grinned...

Very cool! Can't wait!

Next week at this time some of you will be glowing in the reflection of your Donald medal while others are just getting started on their Goofy journey. As for me I will hopefully be somewhere between the Dolphin and Epcot showing my DH where and what to do to see me the next morning. I want to also try and catch an Off Kilter show (if they are playing next Saturday) I don't have much planned since I have to get up so early.

Woohoo! We're almost there, Panda!

Thank you again for all your encouragement over the past year. I can't believe it is here so soon!

And, bonus: DH bought us APs, so we'll be doing more trips to the world this year! I'm hoping for ToT, but I'll settle for RftT! :)

OMG, I can't believe I'm already thinking about doing more events! What has happened to me!

:goodvibes

I bought a new fanny pack that I have yet to test out - thanks for the reminder Dave!! :)

Yup, won't be long now. I look forward to seeing our group there. Enjoy the week.

I found a perfect cure for taper madness (fartleks) that won't work this week because I need the rest. Thanks for reminding me of that. I'm sitting in a hotel room bored (no football on yet) thinking about doing a long run just to pass the time. If I hadn't read this post, I was just a few minutes from lacing up and doing 8 or 10 on hills. That wouldn't be good. Perfect timing!!!!!

I am sooo excited about the upcoming meets and races. I have been wanting to get out and do a couple of more runs for the last few days but it has been raining and I have been using it as an excuse to stay in. Even though it is against my better judgement, I am going to try to get out one more time tomorrow for just 5-6 miles. Nothing to strenuous but just enough to work up a bit of a sweat. Then after that, will be rest and relax mode.

But I do have to ask one question. Are you also saying that I should stay away from the gym for the next few days as well? I will stay away from the cardio but I hate not lifting at all. Can I continue to lift???

Bryan

Bryan,

Go ahead and lift but no leg work after Tuesday. Make Thursday your last lift day with a light routine and stay away from any new lifts or maxing. If I have learned anything from 20 years of runing and the past 3 years as a cross country and track coach it is that a taper that takes you too far away from your routine tends to make you stale and will affect your racing.

Good luck and good lifting,

Mike "GG" B
