Couldn't Even Pay for an Upgrade

And if you booked through Disney, are the paid upgrades always to rack rate, or would, let's say, you were booked under a 20% public offer, would they have the discretion to apply 20% off?
We paid to upgrade from a standard to a preferred room once at Pop a few years ago upon check in. It didn’t seem to matter how we booked or what discount we had. They quoted me the price difference before they even checked my reservation. It was $15 per night at the time. Maybe they handle it differently at Deluxe resorts. I’m not sure.

I was there 08/07 thru 08/20, staying at the Poly and asked for a downgrade, with no refunds! They said no. I wanted a closer building to the GCH, but paid for a lagoon view (only because the closer building was standard rooms not included in the free dining. I paid for the room upgrade, got the free dining and still saved $1500ish on my vacation).

We got back from the world a few weeks ago, 8 nights at the Beach Club, and had put in 3 room requests; ground floor, full balcony, close to epcot, and we actually ended up on the 4th floor, small balcony, and the literal furthest room from epcot possible haha. So I went to the front desk and asked if there were any upgrades that I could pay for so we could move rooms to get one of those first 2 things (we really were looking for a place to hang out while the little one, who is 16 months old, was sleeping in the room) and they told me no. This was 8/16-8/24 so not a usual super busy time, and it really threw us for a loop because the first 2 requests. Is that normal for there to be no paid upgrades available?

I've stayed at Beach Club once and Yacht Club once. I loved them both. 8 nights at the Beach Club sounds so nice. I love the pool and being close to Epcot, the boardwalk and the boat to Hollywood Studios. We were booked to stay there from August 14-20th but being from Minnesota and the horrible storms this summer, I had to pay a big deductible for a new roof and siding for my house. So we stayed at All Star Movies. It was probably the last trip for a long time as 2 of my kids are going off to college. Needless to say All Star Movies is no Yacht and Beach Club but I was so happy to take this last trip with my kids. I'm sorry you didn't get your upgrade and I hope you still had a wonderful trip.

Just musing on the "paid" upgrade part of this post... I would like to hear more about success rates in getting paid upgrades. I don't hear much about paid upgrades, but I wonder how the front desk could even determine how much more to charge you if you didn't book directly through Disney.

Our last 3 trips (all earlier this year), when we checked in we asked about upgrading to club level. Each time, the front desk CM called someone to check availability. Our rooms were all booked with a substantial (around 35%) AP discount.

At boardwalk in feb, there was an upgrade available, but only to one of those large 2-story suites (i forget what they're called - garden cottages?). The upgrade was several hundred dollars per night, so we declined.

At gran destino in july, the only club room available was a 2 bedroom suite, which we again declined because the price was very high. However, the front desk CM told us that if they had had regular club rooms available, the upgrades had been going for about $100/night.

In aug, we stayed at contemporary for one night when attending the star wars preview. We asked about club level and were offered an atrium club room for $75, which we did agree to. It did not seem to matter we had payed a low (for contemporary) AP rate; our original rate plus the $75 extra was still way less than rack rate for our original room. I suspect they had a last minute cancellation, as someone else's personalized itinerary showed up in our room with our room number on it. Still, i was happy to take advantage of it. 😏

I have a reservation ar AKL with tow teens and I would surely pay $75 per day to upgrade to club! Breakfast, along with afternoon wine for me and snacks for them would make it worthwhile.

Nice! I didn't specifically mention Club Level but maybe I should have let it be known that it was an option as well, in case they didn't think I was interested in club level.
