This isn't exactly what you asked but, having seen the show, I thought I'd share my experiences anyway.
We got fastpasses for WOC on 6/20 for the 9 PM show. We ended up in red section which we figured wasn't going to be one of the best views anyway so we didn't rush to get there. Based on advice from various CMs, we decided to go to the top tier and try to stand right at the railing. This plan worked because most people tend to try to get as close as possible when they arrive. Standing on the top tier back from the show actually allows you to take in the full scope of the show and be a little above everyone. Standing right up against the railing is essential though; otherwise, you are just looking at the backs of all the people in your tier.
We did not arrive at the location until 7:55. The front two tiers across all sections looked pretty full already when we got there. There was still a good amount of space in the top tier in red section with most but not all railing spots taken. The railing spots that were available were more to the right toward the Zephyr ride.
DS8 is 51" and DS10 is 53". Both could see fine, but, again, we had them up against the railing. This was obviously not an unobstructed view but the best we were going to do. DS10 does tend to melt down when people, trees, etc. are in his way during the fireworks or other shows but with a little coaching and prep from us did not whine at all this time. I got down low and tested the view from their perspective during the show and could see that they were able to see most of the fountains and screens but probably none of the laser effects. My fully standing view at 5'3" and DH's at 6' standing directly behind our children was only ok also. The view from the side is not the best but was adequate to us because I wasn't interested in investing extra money in our first experience or spending more time than we had to. As it was, I stood in line for the fastpasses that morning for about 40 minutes while the rest of the family was doing other things that I didn't mind missing.
Obviously our way of doing things wouldn't work for everyone. DH would really like to see the show sometime full on from the center and a little closer because we did feel we missed most of whatever was going on with the lasers at the surface of the water and the screens seemed a little blurry and hard to see occasionally from the sides (wind may also have played a factor in that). We all felt though that we had the full sense of what the show was about and were impressed by the technical effects although not particularly moved emotionally. I'm not enchanted enough by the show to really want to spend extra money to see it (I'm going to cancel our preferred dining reservation that I made for the next trip in case we didn't see the show this month), but I might be willing to consider buying the picnic meals sometime if we felt splurgy and didn't luck out with our fastpass attempts during our next visit or two. I would probably only bother using a fastpass in the future if we got yellow or blue section, and, in that case, we would make more of an effort to arrive early, probably by 7 at least from what I'm hearing even though the tickets all say to come back between 7:30 and 8:30. No matter what section we're in, we would want to make every effort to be right up against a railing, and we would try to be more center. Really, it's kind of annoying that even if you pay money for the show, you're not guaranteed much of a better view and you still have to invest a lot of wait time. Honestly, if we're going to invest up to two hours in a show again anytime soon, we'd probably pick Fantasmic even though we've seen that show many times over the years.
