could we ask for some prayers & pixie dust please?

Hi everyone! Not sure where to start here. Too make a long story short, dh & I found out 3 weeks ago today we may be parent's by adopting in Oct. The baby was due Oct1st. The birthmom (teen) and her family were ready to place the baby for adoption. The father was also ready. His family members are still unsure about the whole thing. We expected them to have decision by about mid-August. This past 3 weeks have been a blur ~ trying to get homestudy done and looking/window shopping incase this all fell into place and they decided to put the baby up for adoption.

Just found out this evening, that the baby was born early --- this weekend! The baby is 8 weeks early. So far, everything is good. Baby weighed at around 4lbs. Still too early to tell about lung development and some other things, but everything looks good so far. Now we are jsut not sure how this is going to effect the decision. The girl could take one look in the neonatal unit and decide this is not what she wants - or she may decide she wants to keep the baby!

We are just kind of beside ourselves with the "what ifs". Any well wishes would be great! Thanks bunches!!!!

P.s. not sure what the baby is! It seems like they are keeping everything where we know just enough to make an informed decision, but not to many details that might jeopardize the identity of birth parents.

We hung around the hospital for 5 days after our son's birth and watched his birth mother feed and care for him. Our entire future was hanging in the balance, but she remained true to her promise and allowed us to proceed with the adoption.

Thanks for the well wishes and pixie dust! Today was a better day emotionally! Just alot to comprehend and ponder!

Anyone have any experience with preemies? I do know medicine has come a long way and today's technology is great! Just curious!

Lynette, I hope the baby does well and everything works out for you!

I don't have personal experience with preemies but four pounds is a good-sized baby for one born 8 weeks early. I know the major issues involve lung maturity and any complications from that. Do you know if the baby is breathing on its own or does it need assistance?

Michelle - I know that as of yesterday the baby was on a respirator and feeding tube as well. Haven't got an update today. May not get update until they decide one way or the other. We are just trying to get a feel for any special needs the infant could have now or even down the road. I know it is hard to predict such things. However, there is no guarantee with any pregnancy! We just hope for the best for the baby!
