Seems like WDW has some kind of magie border around it. I hope that the hurricane does not affect it. However, what would happen if a hurricane where to go through and wipe it out? I am sure it would be rebuilt.

I beleive the Castle at the MK can withstand hurricane force winds. I have read this at least a couple times.
The 2 storms are in the Gulf though. Orlando will see a lot of rain and some wild wind but should be fine overall.

The last time the Magic Kingdom closed for a hurricane was in February 1998. they closed for just the one day and then the news went on for days on the amount of tourist money that was lost.

That was the first time it ever closed, and the Hurricane (Raymond Floyd) missed and WDW got mostly rain.

Ive heard that the castle was built with hurricanes in mind too Christmas Elf.
There was a hurricane in February???

We were in WDW during Hurricane Erin in 1995. The parks closed down for a while and other than that there was no major disruption. As far as I know no notable damage was done.

LOL, Joe! Looks like we posted almost together. Actually contrary to all the news reports WDW did in fact close down for a hurricane prior to that one. It was Aug 1 1995. They closed that evening much earlier than scheduled and from what I heard(I cant confirm this) they were closed the following morning too. :D

I just said to a co-worker, if ANYTHING bad happened to WDW, I would leave work, immediately, and go up there to help rebuild.:o ::yes:: Anyone else??:hyper:

I'm pretty sure that they build our house in Celebration to a hurricane code. That makes me think that WDW is most likely constructed to the same code. I really hope that these storms don't have driving rains. We're not in our new house yet, and I'm so worried about water getting under the door and ruining the new floors:( Even worse would be if we got mold from the water! We won't be down there until Sept., so I guess I won't know if we suffered any water damage until then.

I was there too!! I was amazed at how fast they got literally everything up and out of there. Every bench, flower pot, flag, cart, awning...everything that could blow away...was gone! We stayed at the Boardwalk and that place has tons of things out on the walk...everything was taken down and put away...it was really something to see!!

We got some rain and that was it. The first time EVER that MK closed. Pretty unreal. We got into the AK the next day for free! That was so nice!

So, yeah, I'd say it can survive!

I'm sure WDW is built to hurricane code. I was at Downtown Disney today and asked a couple of the CMs if they would be closed tomorrow. They said they hadn't been told. They were, however, taking up all the big potted plants that normally sit around.

Would depend on the category of the storm...If it got hit with a 1 or a 2 it would be fine.......a 3 would cause considerable damage.......a 4 would cause significant damage and a 5...well...WDW would be gone.........
