I've been trying to get my parents to come to Disney w/ GF and I. They're interested, but keep putting it off and aren't all that happy about the idea of going in the summer since it's so hot. I thought I'd try again to sell them on free dining as a reason to with us during August.

Unfortunately, when I've tried to sell it to them they've always got some reason why it wouldn't work :rolleyes1 . They have snoring issues, so they sleep in separate rooms and ALWAYS get a hotel suite with separate rooms everywhere they go. I've suggested they just get two connecting rooms at a value resort, but my mom doesn't like that idea  . So they insist that if they go, they have to get a 1 bedroom villa at a dvc resort (or maybe a fort wilderness cabin)--just something with two rooms. But then they check the prices for those things, and the rack rates are so expensive.* So if they were going to stay there, they'd probably need to rent points, which would mean no free dining, which would mean no reason to come with us in August.

So I had an idea. (I should say, this is a completely hypothetical idea. I'm pretty sure my parents are just not going to come no matter what. But I figure might as well give it one last shot.) What if we put all four of us on our reservation at Pop--and then pay the extra fee for the two extra adults--and buy each of us a 1 day ticket with out package. Mom and dad also get a reservation for just the two of them at a dvc resort with whatever discount they can get or points for the same dates. Then all 4 of us get the free dining credits, but we get to sleep in our own rooms.

Can we do this? :confused3 I assume there is no rule on Disney's part which requires that in order to get free dining every member of your party must actually sleep in the room you reserve, so long as you're paying the right price for the number of people listed on your reservation--right? (So, e.g., if a local family wanted to get free dining they could book a package and pay for the hotel but just sleep in their own house.) Is there any rule about having a reservation at more than one Disney resort at the same time? I think I've read on the Dis about people last year during free dining who booked a value resort w/ free dining and a deluxe with their AP discount and then never actually used the value room. They just saved more money with their AP discount than the $82 a night they spent on the unsued value room. So this would be similar to that--except no room would be sitting empty.

Sounds like it would work to me, but remember you will pay for the 2 extra adults in your room, I think it would be about $20 total per night. Good luck figuring it out! Also, maybe if they will be listed on your ressie anyway and so have access to ME, EMH, DDP etc. they could reserve a suite offsite for a good price and then just get the perks of onsite through your ressie? The price might look more agreeable to them, just a thought.
