DH & I are considering using some of our points through RCI. I'll be honest, I know nothing about doing this.

I plan on calling MS on Monday, but in the meantime, could someone give me information on the procedure.

I have been on the member website & went to the RCI site. It looks like you have to be a member to use your points at one of the resorts, is that correct?

Like I said, I know nothing about this & could use all the information available.

TIA.

I'm not sure what you're asking. However, yes, you do have to be a DVC owner to use DVC points through RCI. All use of DVC points through RCI has to be booked through DVC Member Services...and that obviously can only be accomplised by a DVC owner.

If you are asking if you have to be an RCI member to use DVC points via RCI...NO.

DVC has a corporate membership in RCI, and DVC points can be used only through that membership.

As DVC owners, we do not have, and cannot get, individual RCI memberships through our DVC accounts. That's why the DVC/RCI options are limited to about 600 of the 6,500+ RCI resorts.

Thank you.

Yes, I was asking if you had to be an RCI member. Sorry for the confusion.

I was wondering about the procedure & how you go about booking a reservation that was on the RCI "list".

I will call MS on Monday about it.

For you to have access to RCI resorts they must be on the DVC approved list, around 500 of the over 4000 RCI options. What you need to do i decide what unit sizes and resorts you will accept and your acceptable LOS as well as the acceptable resorts. Do not assume that just because it's on DVC's exchange list that it is of DVC comparable quality or that it will fit your needs. You need to research the resorts including the usual check in days AND unit sizes that they potentially have. For other than 7 days, you can only expect action at 10 months out or less and realize that this inventory tends to be limited at high demand options. For 7 days, be prepared to put in an ongoing search and pay the $95 fee up front. Where and when are you looking to travel?

Well, DH & I will be in Bonita Springs/Naples in mid/end of February, which I know is a peak time.

We actually own a condo in Bonita Springs. We will be there over Christmas until Jan. 11 & then return on Apr. 16. We also scheduled a short 4-day trip in mid/end of February as a rental had not come through for us. Well, yesterday a rental did come through that wants to rent from Jan. 15 through April 15, which is perfect with the exception of our 4-day trip, so now I'm looking for somewhere to stay for that time.

We are going to WDW on Feb. 24, so I could try to extend that. I was also going to check on Vero. I thought if there was a chance I could use our points with an RCI resort I would do that too.

I'm a real novice when it comes to that though as I have never done it & don't know the first thing about it. Being peak season I'm not optimistic though, but I figured it was worth looking into & getting some info.

Dean - is the RCI approved list the one that you can link through the DVC member site?

Booked an RCI destination back in March through our DVC. There is a $95 transaction charge for your points being used at the RCI destinations. The vacation went perfect!

Yes it is. You can see the full list at rci.com.

VB is your best option but you might also try other FL beach resorts including Marathon, Captiva/Sanibel, West Palm area, panhandle, even MB or HH. The only one that I recognized on DVC's list I saw available for Feb for 4 nights when I searched the regular RCI site was one in Destin starting the end of Jan (Sun & Mon) and for a 3 BR only for 2 different start days. Only a $50 housekeeping fee, not bad for a 3BR, most 1 BR are around that much.

ETA, if I drop back to 3 days, Palm Beach Shores comes up as well for a 1 BR, same date.

OK, thanks. That's the list I was looking at.

How do I do a search to see what's available?

Buy an RCI points resort and join RCI directly for points options or a week at an RCI weeks resort or mini system that works with RCI like Bluegreen or Wyndham. There is no way currently to search for DVC members other than calling DVC and asking they do it. Hopefully this will change at some point, esp since RCI just "upgraded" their system. As long as the volume doesn't get too much, I don't mind looking in RCI to help out.
