I know there was a thread asking people if they could send cards to a mom in the nursing home and that thread had such a great response and many people were nice enough to take the time and put out the effort to send cards, I was one of the many people that sent out a card. I don't want this to be a copy-cat thread but my best friend has asked me to ask around at work to see if I could get anyone to send her grandpa a birthday card. I asked around work and then thought of the wonderful thread and the wonderful people on the DIS board so I decided to also ask you all as well.
Here is his story: He will be turning 85 on May 24. His wife suddenly and unexpectedly passed away 2 years ago and he has been very depressed and lonely since the death. He has set up a mini shrine for her at their house and has continued hanging pictures of her everywhere, but the pictures can't seem to take away his pain and his loss. He use to be very social but now won't say a word to anyone. Right now he doesn't talk about the death because it makes hom very sick to think about it. My best friend, which is his granddaughter, decided that for his birthday she wants to brighten up his day and hopefully get as many people as she can to send him cards.
If you would like to help me send him birthday cards. Please PM me for his name and address. Thanks so much in advance.
*UPDATE*
I want to thank all of you for all of your cards. He was so appreciative as well as the family. He was suprised that so many people would send him a card that didn't know him. You made his birthday so wonderful.
Unfortunately this will be his last birthday, he was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas, lungs, and other organs and is expected to live only 3 months. Because of all your cards, you have helped him to have such a memorable birthday. Thank you for helping him realize so many people in this world care.
