Could someone please explain how the "Wait List" procedure works?

I have a Disney Vacation Club owner ask me if I would like to be on a "wait list" to try and get a reservation at Villa Wilderness Lodge for five nights of December 7 to 11, 2003 for a studio.

I think that several DVCers have told me that there is no availability for reservation at this time for VWL for my dates.

What might be the problems encountered if the WDW member services are unable to find a reservation at VWL on a "wait list"?

If they tell me no reservations available, will they force me to stay at another DVC resort?

If I can't get VWL, I would like to still stay at Wilderness Lodge Resort for the Holiday decoration experience. And since I have a WDW Annual Pass, I could hope for a special code to come out for the regular WL resort. I could still cancel this Wilderness Lodge Resort reservation, (I have not made one yet, but will when a code comes out), if I get the VWL reservation.

That is why I'm a little concerned about the wait list and the DVC owner, and how long before date of arrival do they give before they say no luck, or do they force you to take another available DVC resort.

I have already saved the money for the studio at VWL at 60 points at $10.00 per point or even more if necessary.

But I don't want the DVC owner to hold this wait list to the last minute and cancel when they could rent it to someone else at OKW or BWV, etc..

I want this to be fair to me and the DVC owner.

And as far as staying at other Disney Vacation Resorts...if I were staying at any other time of the year, I would love to stay at OKW or BWV or BCV.

But I love the holiday season in December with all the parks and resorts decorated with bright lights, christmas trees, and holiday decorations.

I especially love the Wilderness Lodge Resort's decorations. At night time, I love walking through those big log doors at the entrance into the huge lobby with the 4-5 story beautiful christmas tree. I love to people watch and sit in one of the lobby's comfortable leather chairs and admire all the wood logs.

Or sit in the rocking chair in front of the huge fireplace,

Or sit in the other fireplace area above the lobby entrance, my favorite place.

Or eating at WL Whispering Cafe restaurant and sitting by their own fireplace, facing the main lobby and christmas tree. Watching families and kids come by looking for the Hidden Mickey's in the WL WC stone
fireplace and if seeing someone getting frustrated, help point out the hidden mickey's to them, especially children. They get so excited and then head off to the next place on their list.

And every now and then, I ask for "catsup" and a "spoon". :):):):):):):)

I've alrady put a rental request on the DVC rental board, but I need more information on renting points being on a waiting list through a DVC owner.

Anyone have this experience as a DVC owner?

Can anyone explain "wait list"?

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance?

Ray :)

Ray -

waitlist for renters is difficult to answer. That is going to be up to the member you are renting from as to how they want to handle it (i.e, deposit, cancellation, etc.)

Basically, it is exactly what it says. MS keeps a "waitlist" for people in case of cancellation. There are generally a number of cancellations and waitlist stories of success go on and on. A room could be available in 2 days or not until 2 weeks before your stay.

There are also 2 main waitlist options. 1) day by day, this means if any night in your reservation becomes available you get the individual night. This has the highest success. The down side you could end up with M, R, F and have to move out every other day. You could get lucky and get it all (either together or over a period of a few months). You also have the option of paying for a cash room, if available for the other nights and "linking" the reservation so you have a continous stay but with 2 methods of payment.

2) full stay only waitlist. You give them exact check-in and check-out so you only get the room if everything is available. This is a little harder to get as 1 person would need to cancel with your exact stay dates.

FYI - there is no way to check your place/number on the waitlist.

Hope this helps.

Good luck
Sandy

you chance of getting one just depends upon how many cancellations that MS gets for that resort the week you want it - if none - then forget it - and no one has a means of prediciting this situation - I would think at this date - both BWV and BCV are also filled up - so the only thing that could be rented would be OKW. if that is even available.
