explain to me how I shrink digital photos?

Once I put my pictures from my camera on the computer, then send them in an email, they're HUGE.

How can I make them smaller? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Most photo programs have a resize feature. I use Photoshop and it's procedure is to click on Image, Image size and then set the pictures size either by pixel or inches. You can also control the resolution as well.

It's always a good idea to "save as" and create another file for the smaller picture and not write over the older/larger file. I like to shrink the emailed or web shots to about 800 pixels on the longest side max, try 72pixels/inch resolution too if plan to view on a computer monitor.

What are you using to edit your photos?

If you are using Windows XP, the easiest thing I have found is a Windows add-on from Microsoft (they call them powertoys) that resizes pictures. This link has a list of all the powertoys. find the one called image resizer and install it. Then all you have to do is right click your photo file and it will bring up a window that asks you how you want to resize it (small/med/large, resize original or copy, etc).

I recommend that you download and use the freeware photo-organization program named Picasa, from Google. According to their page: "Take the guesswork out of sending photos. Picasa automatically resizes and attaches pictures to email messages at sizes your friends will be able to open. Works with most email programs, including Google's Gmail. "

I'd recommend the free and very small Irfanview. It will do high-quality resizes and it extraordinarily powerful while still being easy to use. (Some of the bundled camera software - I'm thinking specifically of Kodak and Canon here as I've seen them first-hand - try to be so easy that they're downright insulting, and they end up being much harder to use than if they didn't attempt to dumb things down so far.) You can also do batch resizing, so you can take a whole bunch of photos and it will give you all new ones sized however you want them.

You can get it via the link in my signature. I have no relation with the author, just a very happy user (I don't know what I'd do without it!)

Let me answer your question using the software you already have.

While in ZoomBrowser Main Menu with the photo you to shrink selected:
Click on the "Export" button.
Click on "Export Still Images".
If you want a specific height or width, ensure there is a chackmark next to "Resize images during export". then set the size you want.
If you want to make an image smaller, change the quality, but be aware it means what it says. The image won't look as good.

There is no tool in ZoomBrowser to change the resolution, unfortunately.

BTW: I am using ZoomBrowser 5.7. I think the earlier versions are about the same, but I can't guarantee it.
