I love standard views - they are great - if you have one kept it.

if you are using points you generally can't get a FREE upgrade with points.
So I don't understand the rest of your question?

sorry everyone, I guess I was referring to a discussion in the past about is the standard view vs. preferred view worth the extra points and I wanted to reread that.

and if you were to go with preferred or standard view, what specific rooms should I ask for.

I happen to love standard view.

It is probably too late for you - but now there is new class - BW preferred view - these are only BW views - no pools or garden views.

they go - faster than the standard view - but if you can get one then yes it is worth the extra points.

if not I would stick with your standard view. what to ask for it depends upon you. - the higher up the better your chances of seeing the higher fireworks at Epcot or studios. Some people like to be close to the elevators - others want a water view (about as far from the elevators as you can get - but their is a side door so getting to the car or bus stop is quick).

of course if you have a high floor you could be walking down alot of steps....

Just back from 5 nights in a studio on the BW. Third floor, good view of nightly Illuminations fireworks. It is worth it if you like to use your balcony as there are many things/people to watch. Next trip is 1 bedroom in standard view.
