All weekend I was unable to access the disboards. I could get on all other websites but none of the disboards. All my friends who tried could get on, but my Mum, who also has NTL could not. I have been trying all weekend, we even called NTL who could not explain it.

Suddenly today it worked again!

Did this happen to anyone else? I was going NUTS as we leave on Sunday and I needed my 'fix'. However, I got loads of stuff done today. Made me realise how much time I spend on here!

I couldn't get on again today either. I am with Tesco who are routed through NTL so I guess that was/is the problem.

There have been problems with (I think) BT & NTL DNS servers (whatever they may be?)

Same problem here - also NTL - but my computer geekie son told me what to do (made no sense to me at all) so I did manage to get the boards up by a different method! Makes you realise how much you miss the boards when you can't get to them :flower:

Me too - With NTL and off all weekend.

Still very slow today but at least I am back up and running. :cool1:

Called NTL today and they were less than helpful - the lady said that it must be a problem with the site I was trying to access, but if others could get on then may be not!!! :confused3

I could access some other website but all of those were extremely extremely slow!!!

Yeh, I couldn't either and am with NTL. I just presumed it was something to do with the site. I keep getting duplicate emails from here.

*paddy*
How dare you!

I help and I get called names. Tut tut. To get to the boards just use the IP address in your address bar if it happens again:

Makes a change from AOL ;) We always seem to be the ones who have problems :sad2:

For those who are interested :)

DNS stands for "Dynamic Name Server". Internet sites are given nice recognisable and easily remembered names so us humans can understand them. But, in reality, website addresses are actually made up of a series of numbers and decimal points called an IP address. As mention above the DIS IP address is: 130.94.75.33

When you enter a website name into your browser a DNS server converts the name into an IP address. If your service providers' (NTL etc.) DNS server can't find the IP address it asks other DNS servers one until the IP address is found.
If the local DNS server, or another server along the chain is not functioning correctly then the IP address can't be found - hence you won't be able to get to the website :(

By putting the IP address in directly to access the website you are bypassing the DNS server.

A similar thing happens if a site changes it's IP address. It can take a few days for all the DNS servers around the internet to be updated.

Thanks for the explanation Tim - I'm now a lot wiser. Often told my son (aka Lazyphil) not to consider teaching as an option! Although I am very grateful he got me 'up and running again'. :worship:

 Hi Guys,

I've been having problems as well (i'm with wanadoo) and i've only just got back on. Hope this doesn't happen again :confused3 .

Audrey. :rolleyes1
