Could I upgrade a child?

I am neuroticaally planning two trips at once. One a year and a half away!!! Anyway, when we go in June 2010 we will get the DxDDP. We always do and love it. My daughter will be old enough to be charged for the adult prices, but my son will only be 8. My dilemma is that while they can't eat tons of food, they HATE the kids meals. My children eat very well, and would much rather be able to choose off the adult menu. Do you think Disney would let me upgrade the 8 year old to an adult plan?

You can, you will also need to upgrade their park tickets to adult park tickets.

If you don't want to do that, since neither child eats much food, could your two children just share one adult meal? Possibly order the most exotic kids choice off the children's menu to round out the edges for your DS8. Most TS's have steak, fish, pasta, etc as one of their child's choices in an attempt to appease the more adventurous eater.

At buffets and family style choices your DS isn't limited at all and he can get what he wants even as a child.

I hadn't thought about having to upgrade the park ticket too. Maybe they can manage to share without too much whining....

or you could do what we did when my ds was still a "child" ;)
i gave him some off *my* plate! and choked down some of his kid's meal!
because you are on Deluxe plan, you could maybe let ds order your appetizer (and you eat his salad?) to satisfy his adult tastes?

I had to laugh at this.... my husband and I already agreed to "choke down some kids food" for our kids so the 8 year old could try some nice food.....

For a place that prides itself on being family friendly and mainly marketed for kid you have to ask....Why do the kids meals stink?

Maybe, you can use the child credits as snacks through the trip.

There may be a way to do get some credit for the child's meal credit towards a regular adult meal. I would call Disney and see what they say about it. They may give you other options, too.

An adult ticket isnt that much more then a child ticket, it may be worth it if you do the math

You cannot use child credits to order from the regular menu. The child's basic dining plan (the one used by most dining plan guests) costs $10 a day. Disney isn't going to profit from allowing children to use dining credits to order from the regular menu when the dining plan for the regular menu costs more than three times that.

Buffets and all-you-can-eat family style meals are great solutions for kids who are big eaters - everyone at these restaurants gets the same food and can eat as much as they like, no matter what type of credit they pay with. At CS you can try the several places that don't have separate children's menus, or you can share the food, or purchase extra food for the child out of pocket. You can also register the child as 10 years old, pay for an adult park ticket, and get the adult dining plan. (In order to do this, you must register the child on your resort reservation as 10 years old)

Why do the kids meals stink?

Combination of the fact that the dining plan only costs $10 a day for children, and the recent attempt by WDW to market "healthy" meals for children.
