Okay, well because I'm in a 7/8 split room, we are going along with the grade eights to see high schools. Well, two of my friends in my class are trying out for a special arts school. A tonne of people auditions for dance, music, drama, or visual arts but very few get in. Well, my friends, Madison and Nicole are amazing at dance. Madison's sister got in, and she and Nicole are thinking of auditioning. They're pushing me to audition for visual arts or music. What should I do? I mean, it's an amazing school, but some people are really good at what they do, and I just do it as a hobby. There's another school which my sister went to, my teacher and her sister as well, an all girls school, which is amazing as well. The problem is that many people want to get in, but only a few are chosen from that batch through a draw. Then, it's just the three other local high schools.

Should I try out for the arts school? How about the all girls school? :confused3

well, i'd suggest maybe the arts school because if you already do it as a hobby, you will probably find interest in the courses, and you'll probably have a few close friends. the girls high school sounds nice, but don't put yourself down by saying you don't think you could get into the arts school!!! if you want to audition, be confident in yourself, and just try your best. besides, i'd rather go to a school where people are chosen for their talents rather than being randomly picked. unfortunately for me, the only high school i can go to without transferring to a new district (which either requires me to move or for my parents to pay lots of money) is a large local high school. luckily for me, they offer about everything you could think of, from fashion to arts to visual design to engineering.......... you name it they have it................. and that creates a probelm because i know i won't be able to choose between fashion and the arts.............

I guess the big question here for you is what do you want to do when you finish school? Do you want to have a job that has to do with your artistic abilities or do you want to do something that is going to require a stronger focus on acedemics? (not that you would not get acedemics at the art school) Don't let your friends pressure you into trying to get into a certain school because they want to go there. No matter which schools you all end up at you will make plenty of new friends in high school. Think about what you might like to do as your profession and decide what school you want to try for based on that. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Never limit your options!! Try out , show your portfolio, and apply to as many special schools as you can. You will be much better off and happier having to choose one rather than being forced to settle for one

I say you go for it. Go Audition. I mean why not? You got nothin to lose and you will regret it later if you dont. and apply to bunches of special schools like that so if one falls through, you still have others.

I say go for it. Why not. You'll never know unless you try. And you will always have that tiny voice in the back of your head "remember when I thought about going to an Arts High School. " The "what if bug" is not something you want to catch LOL.

And second why do you think you do not rate getting into other special schools. Remember you are now famous on VMK LOL. Got to get ya somewhere I think. You have made a lot of good friends on VMK/DIS that says a lot about you as a person.

I remember when you first joined and how shy you were now you are the very popular milkabum. I would say no longer a bum :)

True. My friend told me again today that I should.
I think I'll start reading up on it and practising. :) I would like to pursue a career in design. Perhaps photography or artictechture, maybe going into the fashion industry.

I was thinking the same thing valeriesunshine.

Well I work in an architect and Design firm. So if you have any questions you can ask me. All I know really is that Mr. Brady was not a true architect. Most do not get home at dinner time every night. It is very hard and long hours. But very rewarding when the building is completed. At least you can say I helped build that building :)

I'm not sure what one you should go to, but if you ask me you should ignore you doubts and go with what your heart says.

And if that doesn't work, you could always flip a coin. ;)

i got this quote from one of my old science teachers "Aim for the sky, if you miss the moon you'll land among stars" so i would say go for it what do you have to lose?
