Could I get an opinion or possible solutions?

I would call MS and talk with them about RCI.
Its not a perfect solution. We were going to lose 100+ points with the closure. We were able to transfer our points to RCI and have and expiration date of 12/2022.
Luckily, for us, DVC changed course and let us bring those points back and back them into next year due to a June UY.
At least, moving them to RCI, you have 2 years, plus to find a way to use them
Good luck. No easy answers for anyone during this time. We just have to move with the options given.

We have a trip planned to Aulani in June using points including 150 banked points from 2018. I inquired about cancelling so we would go the same time next year and was told by Member Services that I would have to use those 150 points by December or deposit them into RCI. Which means Aulani will not work for us for next year. Is there a solution? Could I rent those points out then borrow? It is so disappointing as we saved points for this trip.

I am sorry for your predicament. We also face the loss of points - we were supposed to go the first week of April in a 2br using 2018 and 2019 September use year points. We have been able to bank the 2019 points but 280 of the points are 2018 and will expire on Aug 31. We are hoping maybe by some chance DL will open up or possible we could do a "staycation" in San Francisco using Disney Collection once Shelter in Place is over in California.

Have you called Hawaiian Air yet? It may be too early and the situation may be different by June but one of our flights was on Hawaiian and it was the one a week that wasn't cancelled. We called them a week out (we had already cancelled Aulani) from the flight and they gave us a refund instead of credit - no problem. Again, April is different than June but you might want to try calling.

If you have your heart set on Hawaii next year, you could take the air credit, do a shorter stay at Aulani and then stay a few days elsewhere - North Shore is fun in June and you could rent a condo near Turtle Bay for much less than Aulani. You also mentioned inter-island so you could spend two nights on another island. Maybe you could even find somewhere on one of the islands to use the RCI points. Unfortuntately I don't have any other suggestions for the expiring points except to possibly use them for an adult only trip maybe even to Vero or HHI depending on where you live.

Good luck, but definitely try giving Hawaiian a call - we were surprised to get the refund with no fuss at all.

EDIT: I just looked and I can travel through RCI even though I purchased resale...So...my only redemption is if Hawaiian Air cancels the flight
Hawai’i is one of the places RCI has a number of good options. We’ve stayed in three of the Hiltons (a Lagoon tower 3BR penthouse on Oahu, and 2BRs at both King’s Land and Kohala on the Big Island) and all were excellent. With the RCI grid they are fewer points than Aulani as well.

Thank you everyone for your help! Great suggestions on trying to make the best of the situation...A few questions:

1.) Since this is a waiting game on whether or not Hawaiian Air cancels, what is the latest I could wait to cancel Disney Aulani? Does it make a difference in trade power to RCI for those 2018 points?
2.) How difficult is it to get a Hawaii trade with RCI if I only have 2 weeks to work with next summer?

Trades into RCI have to happen at least 45 days prior to points expiration. Less than 30 days out you points go into holding and can only be used for stays 60 days out or less. Hope it works out for you.

As long as you deposit at least 45 days beore the end of your use year, points are points in RCI (I think!) But, you have to cancel before your points go into holding unless DVC is still waiving that. I'm not sure on the details of either of these so it would be good to check.

Hilton tends to deposit once or twice a year. It was about mid-may 2019 when Hilton bulk-banked Kings Land for summer 2020. Most but not all summer weeks had 2BRs available. Kohala Suites banked around then, but inventory was more sparse (and I don't have the details handy). If I remember, there wasn't a noticeably large bulk bank for the resorts on Oahu for 2020, but I could be wrong. When they do go in, they tend to go quickly.

For 2021, Bay Club has already been banked (and the summer 2BRs are mostly gone), but I don't think any of the others have gone in yet.

There are other very nice resorts on the islands, but if you have specific weeks in mind and you miss the Hilton bulk banks (or they don't happen) you may need to be a little less picky.

Thank you for the info! This is what I was worried about....it is a gamble on us getting a 2 bedroom for next summer and we would be forced to go to Hawaii due to a potential airline credit only with Hawaiian air.
