Could Disney bring back its 7-for-4 hotel deal later this year?

Could Walt Disney World bring back its seven-for-four hotel-night promotion later this year? One analyst thinks so.

Disney earlier this year stopped accepting bookings for the popular promo -- which has helped Disney World prop up attendance but at the cost of lower profit margins -- and replaced it with a free dining offer that travelers can book until late July. But Richard Greenfield, an analyst who follows the Walt Disney Co. for Pali Capital, wrote in a recent post on the firm's research blog that "we sense" that the free dining promo has not been as successful as the hotel discount was.

The seven-for-four travel window runs until mid-August; the free dining travel window is from mid-August to early October.

"We suspect Disney will need to go back to a 7 for 4 or better promo in the near future to sustain attendance levels" for the final three months of 2009, Greenfield wrote. The final three months of the calendar year are also the first three months of Disney's 2010 fiscal year.

Greenfield added, "Our thesis remains that without a notable pick-up in the economy, Disney will need to significantly discount pricing in 2010, further pressuring margins…or experience a substantial decline in attendance given how much vacation share they took within the Orlando market over the past year and how many vacations they have pulled forward by aggressively discounting."

I'm hoping for this deal again or something as good or dare I say it, better.

DH gave the ok for a Dec trip if the deals keep coming....

*fingers crossed*

I doubt it. Unlike the first nine months of the year, the last three are chock full of too many events that do not require any special promo to bring people in. For example:

1) MNSSHP
2) Halloween
3) F&W Festival
4) Jersey Week
5) Thanksgiving
6) Osbourne Lights
7) MVMCP
8) Candlelight Processional
9) X-Mas Parade Taping
10) Pop Warner
11) Christmas
12) New Years

4+3 would not only cut into the already incoming revenue, there would have to be so many restrictions and blackout dates around these events just for Disney to break even. A lot of pin codes and e-mails have already gone out to shore up the remaining gaps in occupancy. I also expect to see Visa dole out its FD offer in September for the end of the year.

4+3 will not happen again in 2009.

I'm hopeful they release it (or another decent discount) for Jan 2010 when attendance is lower and there aren't as many special events to draw in the crowds. My trip is pending on a deal coming out for the first part of 2010.

It would sure be great if they did release this again for the end of the year! We are having our wedding at Disney in November and our guests would love to get something like this. It would help our families out quite a bit.

I agree that there are a lot of events that time of your which might sustain attendance though. Maybe they will release it with blackout dates for major holiday weeks...

Thanks for the info! I will wait to see those rates for 2010! I hope to stay in CBR!

We're headed down Jan 29th - Feb 6th 2010. Looking for a deal too. Cant wait...

God, I hope not. I would like to go to Disney a couple of times without the belly-to-back-wall-to-wall-bodies.

I too am waiting for a deal for Feb 2010! I am booked at Pop but might move off site if there are no deals. I would rather drive around and save $100 per night than stay at Pop just to be "there"!

My TA thinks there will be deals for that time of year. If there is, I may upgrade to a moderate or just stay at Pop and spend the extra on the DxDDP!

I have to agree with mitros...
HECK NO!!!!! We go to WDW every year in May. This past trip was by far the worst May trip EVER!!! It was a giant disaster. It was PACKED!!!! To add to the already packed parks was the horribly high temperatures. Instead of just wall to wall packed bodies, you had sweltering hot and hateful wall to wall bodies. When I left, I actually made the statement that I was officially done with Disney, and I would never step into the parks again. Of course I eventually came to my senses, but the crowds created "during this recession" were unbelievable. That's why I find it hard to believe all these comments I read on this board about how hard Disney is having it. It didn't look like Disney was having it hard in May. In fact, the temps were so hot, that a lot of people were hiding out in the stores to keep cool, and the lines to buy anything were longer than I've seen in years. The lines to purchase were so long in fact, that on a couple of occasions, we laid our items back where we got them and decided to try the store later on to avoid the long lines to purchase.

Recession at Disney my butt.

If they add it to the Sept dates we are booked for, I'll cancel. I have an idea for you Disney... how about NOT trying to pack the parks!!! How about letting those that are there actually ENJOY their trips? Maybe they will be having so much fun that they will be more likely to spend money! When I'm not having fun, I am less likely to spend money. When I'm having a "bad vacation" I tighten the wallet, and when things are going great, and we're having a ball, we're more likely to spend spend spend.
When the parks are at higher attendance levels, it's just not as much fun. There are those of us out here who spend lots of time and research to locate the low attendance weeks. Disney keeps throwing a monkey wrench into my "preferred dates".

????????????????

May do you really mean May?
We stayed from the 8 until the 15 May in the GF and there was NO waiting time.We never needed a fast pass.

We could get EVERY restaurant we asked for.

The Disney fairy's were on our site this time obviously.

I'm sorry you had a bad time. I guess I always go expecting there to be crowds. I went in January, though, during the 4/7 deal and the place was a ghost town. Also, I do believe there will be free dining crowds when you're there.

Possibly. We are usually really good about avoiding the crowds. I'm not as experienced as some here, but May was our 17th trip to Disney, so we're not beginners by any means. We have a well planned system that works 95% of the time, but we couldn't avoid the crowds, and we even park hopped a couple times trying to do so with no luck.
It didn't work this time. But for the sake of argument, I think the extreme heat (even the CMs said it was worse than August!:scared1:) was a big part in it. Maybe it just seemed worse because it was so dang hot. We spent most of our time in the aquarium (Nemo) and Innoventions, and so on. We did a lot of the things we don't usually do, which was cool in it's own aspect, but the trip overall was a nightmare. You also have to factor in that we booked and paid for the trip during 3 months of great workload, then in April my workload just died cold turkey, so we were there and we really couldn't afford to be, and we could barely even afford to even eat.
But yeah, the crowds were horrible. We were there the week before you, and left the day you arrived.

Unless you go the first 4 days of January, I don't think there could be any offer that Disney would be willing to make that would make January crowded. January is an AMAZING time to go.:goodvibes
If they mix the Sept free dining with buy 4 get 3 free... yeah, that could be REALLY bad. Sept is usually a great time to go. Some of our best trips were in sept. We generally avoid the last week of Sept, because you get a lot of ppl there for the F&WF, which does nothing for me but overpopulate my favorite park. If we go 8 days, no matter when it is, we usually spend 4-5 of those days at Epcot. We're Epcot people.

I wanted to give this a bump. Yes it seems plausible that there might not be a 4/7 deal in the last 3 months of 09, but what about '10?

We usually go in Feb or Mar so we're interested in that time period. Anyone heard anything for the 4/7 for 2010?

It means that we have been making a real effort to be nicer and avoid arguments on here since then.

We are definately watching for a discount of some kind. We are going Feb1-9. If we could get a good discount we could add an extra day on there. As for the crowds, we have always gone in early Feb and once in mid December. We have never had crazy crowds. We do however avoid going to the parks on the weekend during the day. We stay at the resort and just go in for extra magic hours. We went one Sunday and it was crazy busy.
