Could adult only cruises be in the future?

Smoothies, makeovers, upcharge ice cream spot all come to mind... but then, adults do those things for themselves too. I suspect at least some adults might purchase more alcohol if children weren't present so maybe that'd be a wash...

Would think that alcohol usage would go up on an adult-only. Would also think that there would be more seminars and classes geared to adults. Not sure how they'd do it but could also seem them creating another dining option that costs more. Maybe a premium menu at the rotating restaurants?

And yea, forgot about BBB. I could see the spa making up that revenue though.

Disney wouldn't have a hard time finding ways to provide people with a way to part from their money that they would have otherwise spent on their children.

Got a similar survey after our January 11 Treasure sailing.

Can't image Disney would ever offer an adult only sailing on their ships. What would they do with all the space the kids clubs occupy? And the merchandise and experiences directed at the younger set? Just won't happen.

I could see them offering a drink package though. Do they still have the wine package?
On longer sailings they do adults only activities in the Club so that the adults can experience it too. They are very popular! They also do sometimes host things for YA there and we have had Cast activities in there too

They could offer an adult BBB package- They have it on Pirate Night so it could be done in other styles (and yes I can see adults doing it). They could offer an adult only tea (with or without characters) as a replacement for Royal Tea and yes it would also likely sell out.

I can actually think of a lot of add ons DCL could charge for an adult only sailing- Maybe a late night PJ Party in the kids club with characters with an food\drink component for an additional charge?

More Bingo for sure.

Maybe offer a special lunch dining tasting (again for additional $) in a main dining room where the chef explains the dishes (an elevated Anyone Can Cook style)?

Honestly I cant see DCL losing money on this- especially if it was offered only once a year, during an already low crowd season like early Sept.

I'd be shocked if they ever did a true adults only cruise, but I would love for them to offer a drink package.

Disney could charge a premium (above what they already do) for a once a year Adult Only Sailing. Set it in Early Sept (mostly already adults on those cruises anyway) and it will sell out before it hits Gold Booking day.

Things they would need to offer to make it really work-
7 Nights or Longer
A Disney Guest Speaker (Two would be better)
Character Meets (maybe rare ones) held in the Kids Club daily
Events held in the kids club like crafts
Music Trivia being held in at same time, same questions in two locations (like D Lounge and Evolution\Tube)
Match Your Mate in held in the theater, and this might also work well for games like Pop.
Use the Vibe\Edge for Video Games tournaments (I know many adults who love video games)
Give the adult only sailings a cute name- Make merch but keep years off of it, sell it annually on the sailing each year until stock is gone
Offer an adult only afternoon tea (maybe with characters, maybe without) for an up-charge
Offer BBB adult only makeovers (with a special name to make it clear only for this one sailing) for an up-charge

And there is a 0% chance DCL would lose money on it. In fact they could offer more drink tastings and I think adults on an adult only cruise would spend more on alcohol purchases than what DCL would potentially lose out on kid's onboard merch (and even then adults will still buy stuff for the kids in their lives)

I honestly cannot believe DCL hasn't done it yet.
One of my favorite things as a performer is to see adults have the experience of meeting characters that influenced their childhoods. I have also heard so many stories from people of how characters/movies were the magic that got them through tough times in their lives, and it is so special to be part of that.
I love my interactions with adults just as much as with children.
I think the activities you listed above would be awesome, and I would love to be a CM on an adults only cruise!

Another line does a galley tour with cooking demo followed by a meal. That would be a cool thing to do with or without kids on board. Just a general behind the scenes tour of the ship would be fun and an easy way to make some revenue.

I could see them doing a series of adult only cruises. One adult-only Alaskan, one adult-only Caribbean long, one Caribbean short, one European, one out of San Juan, one out of Galveston. I would think this wouldn't come around until the launch of the ship after Destiny.

DCL has done galley tours and Walt Disney Theater tours in the past. We were allowed on the stage, even one of the parts that goes down, we then went backstage and saw props and costuming. I would LOVE to do this again, even for an upcharge.

They have those new smaller ships they plan to build, maybe they're trying to decide if they should make 1 adult only, no kid spaces, no kid merch. Or maybe they're considering making their own riverboat which is typically adult only vs contracting out for the ABD cruises.

I wouldn't mind an adult cruise, although we limit our exposure to non-adults already so I have to wonder what an adult only cruise would offer. We have figured out to walk forward on all 4 of the older ships to avoid arriving in the kids pool areas. The Wish really made a difference on sound levels in the funnel vision - it's the only ship that I enjoy funnel vision - and their kids splash area is isolated behind glass so that noise level is handled also. At this point we only see children in the MDR.

I do wonder of DCL would offer Broadway level shows less based on Disney animated films? Once the ships had live music in multiple lounge areas so maybe this would return (unless it's already returned, and I missed it)? We like the 4- and 5-day cruises so if the adult only cruise is 7 days it wouldn't be of interest to us. Different cruise routes would be nice. The drink packages would have to be based on drink type versus actual bottles for us to use them. We've tried the dinner wine and by day 3 I was tired of that wine.

In my opinion, Disney without children would be a hollow shell of what it should be. To partially quote Tigger: People that would love an adults only cruise would be NFAA. No Fun At All.
And... what exactly should Disney be?

Except for high season cruises, there are plenty of times that adults only groups are the majority of the guests.

My transatlantic cruise in 2022 had 80 kids on board.

They could offer an adult BBB package-
Here in Disneyland Paris you can book the BBB for hair and make up only as an adult. It is not really advertised as such, but anyone ages 3 and up can book it. Dresses only 3-14 years.

Disney should be exactly what it is now. That includes children.
And who or what could it hurt if there is an adults only cruise once a month or once a year even?

If the market Disney is catering to is asking for adults only cruises, Disney would be a fool not to. Especially with more cruise ships coming up.

They will never go fullt Adults Only, but why not have it available in the line up?

To quote:
Rafiki: Change is good.

And Walt Disney: Times and conditions change so rapidly, that we must keep our aim constantly focused on the future.

I would absolutely LOVE an all adult cruise!!! As a couple that has already raised their kids, we're on board with this. We love all things Disney, love their shows and LOVE our pool time, so to have access to all the pools on board without kids? omg heaven on earth. Bring it on Disney, sign us up!!

It will not hurt anyone. I was just stating my personal opinion that people that would love an adults only cruise are probably not much fun - in any aspect of life.

Do you think a once a year adult sailing during a time of year that already has a low amount of children onboard would change DCL being most a family line? If DCL offered a once a year premium priced adult only cruise would that stop you from sailing DCL in the future with your family on another sailing?

My assumption is that the answer is no for most people who are thinking of sailing DCL with their families; that it would have little to no impact on if they would still sail DCL on a different sailing. Do you think after the click bait articles settled down that this would really hurt DCL's current demographic?

But having an adult only sailing might bring in guests to DCL who hesitate about being on a ship known to have so many kids. Bringing in new guests is only a good thing for DCL with how fast they are expanding.

Interestingly enough the thing that I think could stop certain families from sailing on DCL is a drink package they keep floating. I know many families who prefer DCL because they have fewer guests heavily imbibing compared to other cruise lines. Guests tend to drink more when a package is purchased because they feel they must get their monies worth. I really think DCL will regret it if they offer a drink package as it will change behaviors on the ship and turn off some guests from sailing DCL.

Probably not fun? So have you ever sailed an adult only cruise (like Virgin)? If not that is a bit like saying I assuming sushi is terrible without having ever tried it and saying you hope DCL never serves it because you personally do not think it will taste good.

Have you ever spent an afternoon in the adults only main pool on the fantasy? That area can be rocking - depending on the adults on that certain cruise. It is too much for us most cruises! We prefer the quiet of deck 13. Lets just say the alcohol is freely flowing in that area in the afternoons.

I have to imagine an adults only cruise on DCL would be much more expensive, since they don’t have a casino and would need something to make up the loss of revenue by not having kids aboard.
You mean like charging twice as much as other cruise lines do?

Disney is just planning for the future as the birth rate continues to fall and there are less children. Maybe they will open up retirement homes at Disney.
