The cold that never ends. That's what I have. Every once in a while, I start coughing and can't stop. No matter how hard I try. It's like there's a tickle in my throat and it won't budge. I actually sound quite awful and start turning red.

And then, a few minutes later. I'm fine. It's so embarrassing when it happens in public.

UGH! I hate that! That's usually what I get if a cold is passed around the house... everyone else is sick a day or two and all better..... me? I don't even really feel sick (thank goodness since I'm caring for everyone else around that time) but I'll get a cough that lingers until the end of time (or atleast feels that way). I'm going through it right now... 2nd week of stupid coughing fits but otherwise feel fine. I wish it would go away! And it's exactly like you said... feels like a tickle in the throat and it's definitely a coughing "fit"- especially if I try NOT to cough.

Hah ! You think you have it bad now ? Wait til you reach a point where every coughing fit causes you to ever so slightly wet your pants ! The good news is, that like so many things, this is usually a temporary condition :-)

I know exactly what you are talking about and it is truly miserable! So embarrassing--people look really concerned and keep asking, "Are you okay? Are you SURE you're okay?" etc. and all you can do is give a red-faced nod and keep on coughing!

I hope you'll be over this soon. I know that can go on for weeks after a cold!

I was gonna mention the wet pants part but I see someone else did it for me! :p
I hate when that happens!!!! :o

Have you gone to the doctor to make sure you don't need antibiotics? You could have a sinus infection, bronchitis or something...Good luck~ take care!!

This is the worst!!!!! I get these coughs for months at a time due to allergies w/ post nasal drip and I live off of cough drops and lots of water.

The worst place for this to happen for me is when I am helping my customers and I have to leave because I can't stop coughing, and my eyes start watering from the attack (plus people ask if you are okay and I just can't be talked to when I am having a coughing fit). Other worst place is in church - these attacks always seem to happen during a prayer.

Anyway - I know how you feel - its a real bummer!!!!

Boy can I relate! I have had that annoying"tickle" for two weeks now. Its getting better, but I start to cough so hard I throw up! (sorry if too graphic! but other mentioned wet pants!!)

This happened to me the other day when I was driving on the highway and all I could think was that I was going to barf in the car and hit another car in the process while I was "distracted"! I now make sure I have something to drink wherever I go.

I am getting tired of the "look" from other people when this starts like I have the plague!

My asthma attacks come as coughing fits instead of wheezing. I don't know how many times I have had people thump my back or run around behind me to give me that Heimlich because they think I am choking until I manage to get my Albuterol out. At least people care.

Oh my God, I'm also going through this now! It always happens this way for me - that darn post-nasal drip causes the dreaded "tickle" and that's it - I have everyone in the vicinity looking at me like I'm Typhoid Mary! My face gets so red, and I can't catch my breath, and sometimes all that coughing makes me gag - such a pretty picture! The whole time, DH is asking if I'm OK, and I can't even stop long enough to answer him. I never noticed this happening to anyone, EVER, so I thought I was all alone in my tickle-induced misery, but now I know I'm not the only person who gets the weird coughing fits - I empathize with you all!

I went to the movies yesterday and was terrified that it would happen there (because it did last week), but thanks to my water and cough drops, I was OK. BTW, I find Halls Defense Vitamin C Drops are delicious, esp. the assorted citrus package.

I also have cough varient asthma. People always try to offer me cough drops. I know they are well meaning, but a cough drop could choke me to death if I am having large coughing spasms! My son has it too and I always warn him not to take a cough drop during a bad spasm. Inhalers are a must!

I always thought my family were the only people who did this. Then recently I was at the doctor's office and a little girl was coughing really bad. Her family just kept talking as if nothing was wrong and her mom calmly handed her the trash can. It made me feel so much better!

This used to happen to me all the time. Every time I had a cold, my cough would last for weeks afterwards. I stopped taking cold medicine and it doesn't seem to be so bad anymore. I am miserable in my sinus area for a couple of days, then I get better. I may have a cough for a few days but I rarely get the "tickle" anymore.

Sometimes this happens to me without having a cold - if I try to hold a cough in during a meeting and then it turns into the cough from heck. It takes over my body in wracks and shakes and then I start and can not stop coughing and the tears start to flow and then, well, the other thing mentioned above that happens after childbirth and passage of years. :o
