Couch or sofa?

Is there a difference between the 2? And what do you call yours?

Sis, the only difference is where you're from. It's like drinking soda or pop or tonic.

I call mine both sofa and couch. Most of the people around here say sofa, but most of the people where I grew up say couch.

Basement or Cellar?


The only Cellar for me is LeCellier LOL. I call it a basement, and oh how I wish we had one

We drink our coke while sitting on the couch. My inlaws have a basement, which they like to call a cellar. I am from the south east and they are from the North east.

Where I grew up you sat on the sofa (or davenport) and drank your pop before you went down to the cellar to put more coal in the furnace. Now I sit on the couch drinking soda and have a basement. And it was never called "dinner," always "supper."

I rarely drink them, but sometimes I have a coke on the couch. Usually a diet coke, now that I'm pregnant a ginger ale or sprite. I say soda, too, but honestly usually use coke.

We sometimes go down to our basement. My husband (from Boston) insists that no, we go down cellar. Notice no "to"...just down cellar.

AnnieandHallie's mom - Are you from Canada? The only person I've heard call it a Davenport are my Canadian relatives, who coincidentally have a daughter named Hailey. When they told me to sit on the Davenport I didn't know what to do.
When I grew up it was a couch, now I use both interchangeably. Also, it used to be a cellar as a Philly kid, now it's more often basement. Even when I grew up if you refinished it, it became a basement. Cellars are creepy and have mice. Oh, and we drink soda.

I prefer to set my setter on the settee. Actually I call it a couch, but occasionally a sofa, especially if I'm refering to a sofa-bed. My mom used davenport sometimes.
