My son's team will be going to Cooperstown next July and I've been told we need to make reservations very soon.
We'd like to rent a cottage/house on a lake - it will be me, dh, and our 2dd, since ds will be in the dorms.

There are so many houses (and lakes!) to choose from that I can't decide. Has anyone rented one that they really liked?

Haven't rented there, as we lived close enough to not need a place to stay in Cooperstown (presuming you mean Cooperstown, NY)?

Glimmerglass is the main lake that the town borders, so look for a villa there.

Try the little German Bakery on the corner (you'll find it). I don't ever do doughnuts, but these folks make the VERY best real doughnut you'll ever eat!! (Excellent linzer cookies, too)!

Have fun!

I researched this last year for my son's team. I'd heard that renting a house was a good option. We'd just visited the area and museum on our way home from a tournament in Buffalo. It's a fairly isolated area, FYI.

When I looked at the many websites of house rentals in the area, I found them to be frought with all kinds of rules (understandable, absolutely) that were a bit much for me and frankly, between those and the decor of most of them, I felt they weren't somewhere I'd want to spend a week.

Other options were some of the chain hotels (very few there) and some in-town B&B type places.

What I liked the best was the Jellystone Park option. They don't book until late winter/early spring.

It's a very expensive week once you realize all the costs involved. And "the rest of the family" has to be pretty happy with the choice since that's where they'll be spending their hard earned vacation time and money.

We had a fantastic time in Buffalo/Niagara Falls and I'd go there again in a heartbeat. Cooperstown, eh.

Thank you for the replies. I have "German bakery on the corner" in my planning notebook!

Thanks for the idea of Jellystone. I am definitely looking into that! I will also look into rentals around Glimmerglass.

Up until the other day, I thought this was a long weekend type of tournament- I didn't know it was a week long thing. And, yes, it is a bit expensive, so I guess our vacation next year has been decided for us. Oh well..... just ONE MORE sacrifice for the kids!! :lmao:
