Costumes for Boys?

I know lots of people dress their little girls up as princesses these days during trips to WDW... but do any little boys dress up? If I had a girl, I would definitely dress her up, but I have one darling son, age 2, and I think he would be absolutely adorable in costume. But I don't seem to hear about boys in costume in the parks much at all, and I wonder if it really isn't done much...

DS wouldn't care, of course. DH would certainly roll his eyes. I'm the one who is tempted.

I don't remember seeing boys dressed up, but I imagine a little pirate outfit would get him nothing but smiles and attention.

Go for it! My boys were 3 and 4 when we went last September. If they had wanted to dress up, I totally would have let them. The four of us did dress up in red Incredibles logo t-shirts one night, and the boys had a blast because people kept coming up and asking them if they were really the Incredibles. If he'll enjoy it, let him.

While I've seen photos of boys in costumes on the DIS, I've never seen any in the parks.

My DS dresses up. He has been an Incredible, a pirate, prince charming and prince Eric, and Mickey Mouse. He loves the attention and he is quite cute if I do say so myself! He just turned 5 and I can assure you he will dress up on the next trip as well. I make most of his costumes as it is hard to find boys costumes. We even had other parents asking me if it was alright if their DD's took a picture with him at 1900 park fare because he was dressed as a prince. He is such a ham and ate up every minute of it!!! I say go for it! My DD dresses up too. Childhood is a magical time. Why not encourage it?

I would let my boys but the costumes we have are very hot (good for a cold trick-or-treating night)....not really good for walking around all day in Florida. Maybe though this year I can find something special to get them for at least one day

I am really tempted to try to make him some sort of prince outfit. (I made a Beast costume for my ex once for a costume ball... in retrospect it was rather fitting ) Actually, the extra attention he might get in an outfit might not be a good thing at this age, though. He is two, but looks three or four, and is a little on the shy side.

Where did you find patterns for the princes? We are going to 1900 Park Fare and DS will be dressed as Prince Charming, but I have to figure it out.

To the OP, my DS is 3 and he loves to dress up at home. We are going to WDW in December and I will probably get some clearance costumes at the Disney Store so he has an option. My DD will be dressed up every day- she is quite the princess! So, I'm sure my DS will want to be dressed up, too!

Oh I love that! And so very very true. Disney is so good at encouraging it too!

My boys love to carry swords, and hooks and wear eye patches. We also like the knight costume stuff from Lego store and it is pretty light weight to wear/carry around. All you would really need for Prince charming I would think is a light weight cape and a crown?

Where did you find patterns for the princes? We are going to 1900 Park Fare and DS will be dressed as Prince Charming, but I have to figure it out.

I didn't use a pattern. If it was during the super hot season (August) I took a white t-shirt and sewed all the accessories on it to make it look like the Prince's jacket. This way DS was cool and still dressed. I paired it with blue shorts and he had a sword and belt etc. If it was cooler weather (December) I made a white jacket with no pattern (just winged it and I am not a great sewer and it was still easy) and I sewed all the accessories onto that jacket. Then my DS had a pair of blue pants with a stripe down the side, white gloves, and boot covers for his shoes. He was so stinkin' cute! I think he had a sword for that one too. It's not that hard. You just have to be a little inventive. He loved his costumes! He is already telling me what I have to make next!

Just back from our June trip. We never wore costumes in the park. My son (3.5) did wear the cutest Peter Pan costume to the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. He was the only boy there, tagging along with his big princess sisters. He got extra special Royal treatment. The CM at the side desk was delighted. He said my DS was "Honestly the cutest Peter he'd ever seen". I ordered it from Disney online and had delivery right to our resort. I did bring a Buzz Lightyear costume from home just in case...

Thanks. I thought maybe I had missed a pattern somehow. My mom is a great seamstress, although she hasn't sewn in quite awhile, so we will be able to figure it out.
