Hi everyone!
I am having a bit of a dilemma when it comes to finding costumes for my daughters. My girls are big for their age - 10 yr. old: 5'8" & 8 yr. old: 5'2" - so finding costumes has become a bit daunting, to say the least. Does anyone have contact information or leads on somewhere I could get costumes for them? On our first trip (2015) we just got them generic princess dresses that were altered by a seamstress and they were fine with that (they were just ecstatic to be going to WDW, I think!). We will be making our 2nd trip in September and they have their hearts set on Jasmine (older girl) and Elena of Avalor (younger). For the life of me, I cannot seem to find an Elena costume that doesn't come from China and the adult Jasmine costumes, necessary for her height, are a little too "adult" for a 10 yr. old. Anything North American I can count on for easy shipping/exchanges/returns to/from Canada?

THANKS!

:coffee: :confused3

There isn't practically anything that doesn't come from China - even the stuff in the Disney Store is made there. Why is that a problem? And if there isn't some specific reason you need them before you go, wait until you arrive and shop at the Bibbibty Bobbity Boutique - they have practically every Princess under the sun there in sizes from infant to adult.

Have you tried searching on Etsy? Most likely it'll be more expensive than a mass-produced costume, but they'll be to your specifications and you support an independent artist.

just find some elderly lady who has an add in the paper (a skill thats disapereing ) I bet she will make some great costumes at a great price

Oops! I made it sound like I have a problem with things being made in China - sorry! The problem is that the costumes I have seen (on Amazon, for example) seem to be shipped directly from China. I worry that we may not get it in time or that there may be some problem that could not easily be solved, like an exchange, in the time frame we have. I am also trying to be somewhat frugal, so buying 2 dresses at the BBB seems a bit out of range for the money budgeted for the costumes. Getting them there is still an option worth considering, though. Thanks!

The Disney store Elena costume looks like it might be big enough according to the height chart - idk the rest of the measurements. Etsy can get pretty expensive - the Disney store might be about the same price or less.

Have you tried halloween stores online? You might be able to make an adult Jasmine work by adding a tank top underneath.

Fabric stores often have info on local seamstresses. I know when my oldest was at that too big for kids too small for adults age, the biggest problem was the tops. The chest area and arms were way too big, so even if you find an adult one it still might need some altering.

Lol... that's an option worth considering, as well. Now, how to get in touch with the city's old lady network...
There's a fabric shop near us who have pointed me towards seamstresses before. Is there is a fabric shop near you they might be able to help?

Costumes from the parks will be too short for your girls height. The last costume that we bought our now 12 DD was in 2015 and she was probably 5'1 at the time, and the dress was just below knee length on her, so I doubt that would work for your daughters.

My recommendation- look on etsy or browse through patterns at local fabric stores and see if you can find a seamstress to make the costumes. This is what we do. Thankfully my mom sews so this has worked well for the kids costumes.

With your daughters being as tall as they are, you might want to forgo the full costumes and just go for something like princess hair and a top. Disney has been cracking down on older children wearing full costumes. While your daughters are within the age limit, some cast members might cause you some grief.

Disney might have tightened up their policy language but I'd be shocked if there's that much difference in policy enforcement over recent years. I think the OP's daughters will be fine if they decide to go in costume.
