Costco

The real brillance of Costco is that I've never bought a Kirkland branded product that hasn't been high quality. You can buy the Kirkland paper plates and cheese and know its going to be good. That's where they beat the other warehouse chains to a pulp.

I went today and walked out only $58 the poorer. I bought three slabs of ribs (they turned out great, had the inlaws over for bbq tonight), two whole chickens, a bag of ciabatta and a giant jug of laundry detergent

Has anyone tried Kirkland diapers? I keep thinking they're probably great, but I'm afraid to try the giant size and be wrong.

Try them! The beauty of Costco is that they will take back your stuff, reciept or not, no questions asked if you aren't happy. We've yet to find a "house brand" product that wasn't good. Matter of fact, their dog food is one of the BEST foods on the market and it's cheap cheap cheap!

I love Costco but I can get out of there fairly cheaply. I go once a week, sometimes twice. I buy milk, half and half, fresh raspberries, salad mix, iceberg and mesclun greens, frozen burgers, and breads. Once a month or so I buy detergents, dishwashing liguid and pop up disinfectant wipes. I love the take out pizza. $9.99 and it tastes like it comes from the pizzaria.

has anyone else tried out the individual cream cheese packets costco is selling now? they are so cool-it's a large bag but it's filled with individual packets of cream cheese (larger but similar to the style of fast food catsup packages). they have a long shelf life (much longer than regular bars or containers of cream cheese).

we just re-joined after letting our memebership lapse when we moved from california. it's good to be going there again but i have to say it's REALY wierd going into a costco and not seeing aisles upon aisles of liquor (i think that was the predominiate item you saw in the carts during holiday periods when we lived in california:rotfl2:).

i do miss sams club-they had smaller bulk packages and those great hot meatball subs:goodvibes

According to my niece they are great. She had several friend and relatives who told her to get them. We got her a membership as part of her baby gift.

Ohio too. We miss it now that we are in Md.

I went in the other day and ONLY bought a package of chicken, so proud of myself!,hehe :cool1:

My mother on the other hand.....:rotfl: Yes, you're completely normal. There's just so many tempting things to add to the cart while there.

DD11 and went yesterday, it wasn't the cheapest trip ever but by no means the priciest either.

I agree on the house brand/Kirkland stuff. There has only been 1 product we did NOT like - the Kirkland organic salsa. There was cumin in it and I'm not a big fan of cumin, I don't want it in my salsa - yuck. Otherwise - we buy lots and lots of the Kirkland stuff. I have no hesitation in trying their stuff. Well - the one exception may be their new mac/cheese boxes. Kraft is a staple here and I don't want to buy 15 boxes if it's not the same. I wish they would sell/give away singles of new items like this... It's how they got me to buy the toilet paper - they were giving away single rolls one day so you didn't have to take a chance with 36 rolls.

The one surprise item of the trip was a pair of the tall boots/Ugg knockoffs. Last year DD11 wanted nothing to do with them, this year it's a "must have". Plus, one of our favorite wines was back in stock so I picked up a couple of bottles.

I have learned not to wonder, stay on task. Repeat just the list. Don't take the kids they go to the samples.

I have learned no matter how cheap if you aren't going to eat it or use it in the next few months it is NOT cheap. I have a rather large jar of sundried tomatoes in my frig as testament to this revalation.;)

Funny, I have the same jar of sundried tomatoes. Only I felt compelled to buy the Boursin cheese and Pita crackers that accompanied the sundried tomato samples as well.

Is this even possible????? I didn't know you were allowed to only buy one thing!! ;)

Oh my. Yes. And, be sure to try the Curly's Baby Back Port Ribs (in the refrigerated meats section) - full slab of ribs for ~$15 - half hour in the oven (we wrap in foil wrap to reheat) and ready to eat. Absolutely delicious.

I also like buying romaine lettuce, baby spinach, and avocados - makes us eat healthy to eat it up before it goes bad! Amazing how much stuff I throw spinach into with the ease of that blister pack of baby spinach.

Also, surprisingly, the canned chicken meat has become a staple in our house for quick salads and curries.

I also agree about the Kirkland brand trash bags. I also recommend the laundry detergent and fabric softener.

Our closest Costco is 40 minutes away - wish there was one closer!

I just joined Costco last month and have been considering the laundry detergent, glad you mentioned that specifically. The closest one to me is also about 45 minutes away.

My first trip I bought a lot of stuff and was expecting it to be about $250-300, it was only $150! I had to keep checking my receipt to make sure she rang up everything! When I met up with my husband and told him all I had bought he guessed I spent $350!

The bottled water and dog food prices alone are enough to warrant my membership. I love Costco, even more than Sam's!

Has anyone tried the sirloin steak for sandwiches in the frozen section? I can't remember the brand but on the package it looks like it is chopped up and not in sheets like a steak-um. I love steak n cheese sandwiches but can't do the steak-ums and am wondering if these are any good.

I'll also recommend the laundry detergent - we use the free/clear version. I need unscented laundry products, so haven't tried the dryer sheets. I also really like the dishwasher powder, but have switched to the cascade complete tabs to make it easier for the kids. Consumer reports also gives good marks their laundry detergent and dishwasher powder.

Sounds like you did a good job of not going crazy the first trip - keep an eye out for the coupon books you get in the mail - there are certain products that show up fairly often and I now know to not buy them without the coupon. Cases of microwave popcorn go on sale once a year, and ziploc bags are usually 2-3 times a year. Oxyclean and the cascade dishtabs are others.
