Any preferences? We've been Sam's Club members for years, but a Costco just came to town and we've not been there yet.

Thanks!

Personally, I prefer Costco. They seem to have a wider selection of merchandise. My closest Costco is 30 miles away...the closest Sam's Club is about 15 miles away. I'd still rather drive.........although with the increased gas prices, I might have to change my mind about that.

After being members of Sams for several years we just signed up with Costco. I know one thing, they have better cakes  !

I just loves Sam's cakes but I have heard that Costco'c are even better....
So I am thinking of ordering my daughters First Communion cake their.

Gotta agree with previous posters. I belong to Sam's, but only because they are so much closer to my house. EVERY time I visit Costco I wish they were closer.

COSTCO! I don't know for sure what it is, but I just enjoy going there more! :wave2:

Definitely Costco for me, but I am in the minority, my Costco is much closer than Sam's.........

Costco! There is one by my parents house (about 1 hr 15 mins away). Every time we visit I love going there. We belong to Sams and it's about 8 mins from my house, but if we had a Costco even up to 30 mins away, I'd switch. Costco's bakery is the best. The prepared food there is really very good. The seafood you can get on the weekends like giant crab legs and huge lobster tails is amazing. They carry a lot of stuff that Sams does not. Plus, their store brand (Kirkland) always make Consumer reports lists as a best buy or really highly rated product for all kinds of things-dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, plastic wrap.

Sams does have good cakes, I've always enjoyed them in the past. But Costco has filled cakes (strawberry, chocolate, cheesecake mousse) and they are sooooooooooooo yummy! You can get carrot cake too, I don't remember Sam's having that option.

I have both, couldn't choose, They are near me and across from each other here.

Costco has higher quality fresh groceries. They are supposed to be restaurant quality. Julia Child purchased all her meats from Costco. I belong to both- IMO Sam's is better for some stuff, Costco for others.
I don't think the prices are great at either place. Stuff on sale at the regular grocery stores is usually cheaper than either of these places.

For most things I like Costco better. But like many it's further away.
I have the Sams card and my mom has the Costco card.
It give us an excuse to go shopping together , as if we needed one!
Although Costco cakes might taste better their decorating choices leave a little to be desired IMHO.
You can check it out for yourself though, just go to the desk and they will give you a one day pass.

I like them both for different things. Costco has a much better bakery (their bread is really good) but Sam's has better markdowns, especially on clothes (hint for Sam's Club members--anything ending in .x1 is a markdown item).

Wanted to mention that when Costco first opens they often give away free or reduced memberships for the first year. Worth enquiring about for sure.

Costco has better veggie trays too, for parties. It is true, the Costco cake choices aren't great. I didn't bother to ask if they would do something for me that isn't in their selections, though? That is a good question!

You may not have to choose (at least for a year). When Costco came to our city new, they offered free 1 year memberships to get people to come and try them! The same thing happened in my mom's city, 300 miles away. So, check it out!! Hope it is the same for you.

I like Sam's Club, but then again, I have never been to a Costco, so I don't know if I would like them better. Dh's employer gives all of the employees a free membership to Sam's every year, so we stop in from time to time to see what they have when we are in the area. We get a good deal on the razor blade cartridges dh uses, and there are usually some good prices on books and such.

I like Costco for designer clothes and handbags as well as scrapbooking supplies. I like Sam's for DVD's and other electronic items. We have a membership to both and the are directly across the street from each other here. Like another poster said, they each have things that are better than the other. HTH

Only been to the Sam's Club once and didn't find anything we needed.

We live in RI so frequent BJ's which we love. I thinkt he closest Costco's is in NH.

We love Costco. Three years ago we upgraded to the executive membership level (100.00 per year). At this level, you get a small rebate on all of your purchases. We always get enough to bring our annual costs below the price of a lower priced regular membership.

We have tried to like Sam's but like the variety of brands at Costco better. There are three (?) Costco stores in the Orlando area. You can get a map to each location on their website www.costco.com :wave2:
