I stole this from the Sam's Club/Costco thread. We belong to BJ's currently but am thinking about switching to Costco. I used to belong to Costco when we lived in the Midwest and I was never dissapointed with it. I did find that BJ's had more bulk items that I used but that was a few years ago and our tastes have changed.

Which do you prefer? Why?

In my area Cosco over BJ's. I find BJ's to be dirty and don't like the looks of the meats or fresh veggies. I will buy frozen and canned at BJ's.

I like Costco better and BJ's, but since we moved we don't have a Costco close enough so we are members of BJ's. I like both better than Sam's club.

Costco seems cleaner and more organized, but BJ's is a little closer to my house and carries a larger variety of fresh meat. I use Costco's travel discounts, but find them to be very similar to BJ's. I had the same dilemma- so I joined both. If I had to make a choice, it would be Costco (based on loyalty).

We belong to both and they are right down the street from each other. We definitely prefer Costco over BJ's. Store cleanliness is an issue as others have said and product selection, both food and non-food, seem better at Costco. I buy non-food items and cleaning products at BJ's because they accept manufacturers coupons. We buy meat, produce & frozen items at Costco. Once we tried BJ's meat and it was awful-never again.

I used to be with Costco. What I did not like:
*only Business card people get in when it opens, I had to wait to 11am. Well, I have things to do and like to get shopping out of teh way whenI want, not them, so that annoyed me.
*They do not take Manuf. coupons.
*They have NO express line and shorter hours.
What I did like:
great eyeglass/contact prices
Good food items and I was "used" to the aisles which made it easier in and out.

Then I went to Bj's
What I like is :
great L O N G hours and I can get there at OPENING, if I choose too!
They have great meat and frozens (never had an issue)
Good veggie/salads etc
Self check out and MANY more cashiers to get people thru the check outs faster, atleast that has been my experience!
LOVE that they take Manuf Coupons, some REALLY good deals!
What I dislike:
Nothing so far.....I like it, I just wish they had more in the way of optical.

We belong to both also. But if I had to pick just one it wouldn't even be a hard decision... Costco hands down!!

BJ's is 2 miles from my house and Costco is about 20, so I belong to both. What I don't get at one I get at the other. Years ago my DH opened up a business membership at BJ's. We put family and friends on the app, and it brought down the cost of membership for everybody to $20.

BJ's. But then again, the nearest Costco is almost 2 hours away :)

DMickey - if you're still moving to NH, the only Costco here is in Nashua. There are BJs all over the place. Don't know if that helps or not

BJs membership is cheaper
they carry more of the brands that my family uses
they accept coupons
mail you good coupons

maybe you can get a day pass to both and compare

I would have to say Costco, becuase...

...there is no such thing as "BJ's" in Mid-America (it's another one of those East Coast thingies).
