return policy for electronics, but it changes. I bought a camera in October, 2010, and it just stopped working. I have the box and receipt. Do I even bother trying to exchange it? I need a new one ASAP.

Just saw on the Today Show that Consumer Reports lists Costco as the best store in their returns policy. They also said Costco doubles the usual year long warranty. Supposedly it's on the Today website.

I just saw on the Today show where Consumer Reports thinks Costco is one of the best for returns and exchanges. Apparently Costco also doubles the year warranty on electronics so you should have time to return it possibly.

Hey, happy thanksgivin' to you 'n Matt!! :goodvibes

There is a change in their return policy with regard to certain electronics posted in our store. I am sure it applies to all of the stores. I don't know that it applies to cameras. I would certainly try.

The camera is over a year old? I wouldn't even think to go through Costco at that point. I'd go through the manufacturer. I only return to a store if there's something wrong with the item or if it doesn't fit/I don't like it. I would never use something for a year and then return it.

I know someone that was able to return a mixer that was a couple years old at Costco.

It certainly can't hurt to try to return it..they do have one of the best policies out there.

If that doesn't work and you used a credit card to buy it check with them as some automatically offer you an extra warranty as part of their benefits.

Why not? They generally have agreements with the manufacturer and can send it back for a refund on their end. If they can't they might not accept it but it is worth asking them.

I'd go with contacting the manufacturer too, they'll either fix it or maybe just replace it.

No definitely go to Costco.

I was in there on Friday looking at a computer. 90days to return unopened.

Warranty extended to one year.

Love costco!

Do I feel bad no because of their policy I buy much more there than I would otherwise.

I would definitely try Costco first.
a few years back I purchased a digital photo frame at BJ's ( like Costco), I didn't take it out of the box for whatever reason til about a year later, and it didn't work.
I didn't even have the receipt. and it was no longer sold in the store, but BJ's was able to look up the purchase and refunded my amount I paid, no questions asked, no problem.
so I would def try

Once I remember seeing a woman return a cart full of half eaten food. They took it back with a smile. I saw another guy return a half a bottle of wine.

Having said that, their return policy on electronics is not that nice.

Before it completely died, I had a lense issue with it (which my dd's same camera had, but hers could never be resolved, and didn't work - I could give mine a few bangs, and get it to work. I googled the issue, and the manufacturer is not going to be of any help (there are literally hundreds of threads about it). So, just a warning to any future coolpix buyers - just google lense error.

I bought her camera at costco, too, but didn't save the box or receipt, so just tossed it.

I'm not a big picture taker - I've probably taken less than 100 photos on this camera. I always forget to take it with me, and just use my phone.

We took DD's Wii back last week, it stopped syncing with the remotes. We returned it 6 days shy of 1 year from purchase. DH stopped in one day and asked if we could bring it back, they were able to look up the purchase in their computer system. When we did return it we had the receipt with us and they refunded us in full in cash. We took the cash, walked back into the store and purchased a new Wii.

I know they have changed up some of their return policies because people were bringing computers back after several years.

2 weeks ago we bought a laptop at Costco but found that we didn't like it. The mouse button was really stiff and hard to press with the arthritis I have in my fingers, so yesterday we took it back. They refunded us in full no questions asked and we then went and bought a different laptop. I love Costco for electronics because even though the cash return is now 90 days the extended warranties IMO are worth buying there.

We looked at a laptop at Office Depot and asked about the return, no cash refunds, store credit only.

I saw some guy return a 3/4 eaten birthday cake. They asked him what was wrong with it and he said he didn't like it. I looked at him and said, "but all of you still ate the majority of it even though you didn't like it??" :confused3

We bought a set of Kirkland pots and pans there a few years ago. 4 years in, they warped...like 1/2 of them. Pans shouldn't warp. We took good care of them too. Some were effectively bowls.

We brought back the set and they took them, no questions asked. I never do things like this, but they were expensive pans and should have lasted a lot longer.

Costco rocks. They get lots and lots of my money :)

My parents took back their flat screen TV that had died a few years after they bought it there. I know they didn't have the box anymore, but they probably still had the receipt.

Last year, right after Christmas, I was behind a man in line who was returning the scraps of what had been a $90 prime rib roast. I know it was $90 because he had the receipt and was talking to the clerk about it. He said he wanted to return it because it was "dry". Hmm...maybe you overcooked it??? Not only that, but he was returning less than one slice of it! I couldn't believe it, but they gave him the full $90 back!. :sad2:

No wonder the prices are so high for the rest of us. There are too many people scamming the system.

I read that they changed it for electronics - to 90 days I think.

Sam's club used to have the "satisfaction guaranteed" return policy - they took back anything, anytime. Their policy. They changed it for electronics a few years ago, and now the store defines electronics as *anything with a cord*. The policy is still satisfaction guaranteed for everything else, but at store discretion. So much for corporate policy when it is subject to change at store level!

I tried to return a camera about 100 days after purchase. They wouldn't take it back. This applies to certain electronics, cameras being one.

I was able to return a 2 year old Ooma hub that died though and exchanged it.
