I am wondering About that too. My membership lapsed in Feb. we haven't renewed. I want to buy this for a new membership but I don't know if it is technically a renewal. The old card was in my husbands name. Maybe I will just put this one in my name unless they track it by address.

We were able to take advantage of a deal marketed to new members only after letting our Costco membership lapse and then signing up again. We did go several months without a membership though.

I"m guessing it might be trickier if you let the old membership expire one day and tried to use this deal the next day, although once your membership has expired you wouldn't be renewing, so it should still work.
