Aloha folks, I know this is kind of a specific and picky question but can anyone here comment on the price of meat (ie steak, hamburger, chicken) at the Kapolei Costco compared to Safeway or even compared to mainland prices? Also, does anyone know if the meat is sourced in Hawaii or is it brought in from the mainland? I have been to Hawaii many, many times but not with a Costco membership, which I now have, and I am thinking about perhaps doing some of my groceries there. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I can't comment with specifics because when DSis and I were there we didn't cook. But we did go to Costco for things like men's Hawaiian shirts (great selection and quality, made in USA), macadamia nuts, wine, etc. The place was packed with locals so that tells me that the prices must be good. The food court had the same prices that we have in Minnesota and it was very busy.

awesome jekjones, the locals shopping is indeed a good sign-thank you!

The locals lean heavily on Costco and similar well priced options as it is very, very expensive to live in Hawaii. I think Costco's meats are excellent! We actually buy our meats for here at home either at Costco or Whole Foods. And honey, I much prefer Costco's meat prices (they don't have much, mostly hamburger in organic. Though I have purchased ground organic bison here at home there too). We almost always buy a pack of beautiful steaks for the guys to grill at our villa. Costco often has Prime meats in the steaks. And these are far superior to Choice IMO.

If you do any shopping at Safeway, make sure you have their loyalty card. Sign up for it right there if you don't have one. It can save you quite a bit. I personally like Foodland groceries better in Hawaii but that's me.

Thanks Southerngirl for all the info on Costco. I do have a Safeway card for our Hawaii trips and it does indeed save, I am not sure how anyone could shop there without it!

You are most welcome, Alohamom! Btw, as you likely know Costcos in Hawaii have a small selection of poke. I tried the limu poke at the Kapolei Costco and it was super ono!! Bought and enjoyed some. Flew to Maui for the remainder of our trip, popped into the Costco there, did not ask to taste the limu poke and it was not nearly as good. Moral of the story? Ask to taste the poke that looks good to you!! :teeth:
