We booked a cruise to Alaska with Royal Caribbean this week. We don't have a Costco membership, but if I am able to do the transfer that it will be worth it to open a membership.

I was reading that people that have booked a cruise while still on a cruise were able to transfer to the Costco travel agency, and get the cash card back rewards offered by Costco if you book through them.

Can you still transfer and get the rewards if you originally booked online through RCC?

Is the reward 8% of your cruise cost or 8.5%?

Thanks!

You'd have to check with RCC what their policy about transferring a reservation to a TA (whether there's a time limit, or not). I know on DCL it's 30 days.

I believe the reward amount can vary by each COSTCO.

Also, there are different perks for booking RCC through Costco. I don't know if cashback is one of them. Go to their website and pull up your cruise to see what you would have gotten through them.

Here is what I found for June 2019 RCC Alaska. I’m not sure about transferring, I’ve only done DCL

The rules about transferring are probably similar to DCL, ie within 30 days or so. But the cash back is more with DCL than RCCL just from the couple of sailings I’ve checked. I don’t know that it’s anywhere near 8%. With DCL it is 7-8%.

I clicked through to the final fare on a couple of different RCCL Alaska cruises. The cash card comes out to 7-7.5% of the fare (less taxes/fees), about the same as DCL reservations. You'll notice that CyndiLouWho's image says "Costco Cash Cards From:", the listed values are based on the fares that they display online; once you apply an onboard booking discount (you'll have to call Costco travel), they will calculate based on the cabin you choose.

The transfer process looks similar to DCL except you have 60 days: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/direct-booking-transfer.

This is correct. I did this earlier this year. It was easier to book direct with Royal because Costco didn't list the cruise on their site for some reason. I waited a day to fill out the transfer form and then called Costco a couple of days later. It was super easy and we will get the Costco cash card when we return. They also were able to modify my parents booking to give them the "Food, Family, and Fun" package (or something like that). Same price, but more freebies. We couldn't get it because it was only for double occupancy.
