My wife is a Costco member. She will be with me. I am her spouse but not a member. I put myself down as the primary driver. Will this be a problem. Or must the Costco member be down as the primary driver. Renting with Alamo.

The primary driver is the person whose name appears on the contract. If you are asked for your Costco ID when you pick up, what are you going to say? Simple answer is to put the rental in your wife's name with you as an additional driver.

My dad is the Costco member and we always put it in my name. Never been asked for his card and never had an issue in the close to 10 times we’ve done it. If you’re worried do as the previous poster mentioned to be safe since Costco includes an additional driver anyway.

We’ve rented several times via Costco with different rental companies. I have done the booking, DH is the only listed driver. Never encountered any issue.

You live in the same house so you should be able to get your own card for Costco without having to pay for an additional membership. Bases are covered

And then download the Costco app to your phone and link it to your shared Costco account so you have your account number, picture, and a QR code right on the phone. I no longer carry my card, and I’ve not been asked for it for any of my car rentals using Alamo or Budget booked through Costco.

With Costco's recent "tightening" on sharing membership, I am not sure how strict it would be when accessing benefits with third parties nowadays. If Alamo won't let you be the primary driver because you are not the actual member, I don't see why you can't just swap with your wife at the counter.

I rent several times a year through Costco. As mentioned, a second driver is included but you have to present your license when the car is picked up. I would reserve the car in your wife's name and have her drive out of the garage. They check everything at the exit so it just makes it faster to have the primary driver drive out. You can swap outside if you want to. Make sure she has her Costco card with her....sometimes they do ask.

ETA...Alamo is the one that requires both licenses. Budget/Avis only requires the one of the person named on the contract but a spouse is an automatic second driver.
