I know it is a new port for DCL to be included on the special Itin starting summer 2006... but just wondered if anyone had been to Costa Maya on another cruise line or land vacation. If so... what sites do you recommend?
We are booked with friends in 3 cabins for the 11/11/06 cruise and we would love to hear from someone who has been there any thoughts they have about Costa Maya mexico.

You may want to look at trip reports from last October/November. Due to hurricane Ivan, DCL had to change the Western itinerary and we skipped Grand Cayman and went to Costa Maya. A group of us DISers went to the ruins at Chacchoban and had a great time, some others went horseback riding on the beach, others went to a beach at the village of Majahual and some stayed at the fake "village" at the cruise pier.

My trip report (Chacchoban ruins) can be found at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=679797 This is Part 3 and the day at Costa Maya is about 1/2 way through the page with the header "Tuesday".

I hope this helps some,

WOW! Thanks for the replies. I did not realize that The Magic had been to Costa Maya last fall when they were trying to avoid the path of a hurricane. I will head over and check out the info. We are looking forward to a port that is not in the usual bunch. Of course the best part of the cruise are days Sunday and Friday.. 2 stops at castaway Cay!!! WHOOOPEEEE!!

We stopped last year during Hurricane season, and just stayed at the little village port right there at the dock. It was really cute, built specifically for cruisers. They put on a show in an outdoor arena right there in the "village" and there were donkey rides (think pony rides, except with a donkey. lol). There was a large wading pool and then a bigger pool over closer to the edge of the water with a bar and restaurant adjacent to it.

In this picture, you can see the bigger/deeper pool right at the edge, up close to the rocky shoreline. It was VERY pretty there! You can see the Magic in the background.

Since we did the Tulum ruins excursion while at Cozumel we opted to just explore the "village" and do some shopping there.

I have some more pics of Costa Maya on my web site. Click on the link below, then scroll down to my Disney Cruise section, then click on "Costa Maya" under the "Ports" section.

Hope this helps a little :sunny:

P.S. I still have the list of excursions that DCL offered for Costa Maya. If anyone is interested, I'll dig out my Navigator and type them up.

Terry, when you get a chance I would like to see what they had for the excursions.

Thanks, Mary

Thanks for the pictures and trip report!

When we found out our itinerary was changed to Costa Maya, I emailed DCL and asked about excursions to the ruins. Since it was a "short notice" change, DCL did not provide advance info on the excursions and they had to be booked on board - I would think that would change for these planned cruises!

Anyway, they sent me an email with the info about the Chacchoban ruins tour at that time, so I am just cutting and pasting here for you. I know there were others and I'll see if I still have info on those or not when I finish waking up!

A complimentary cold drink is provided on your return trip. It is recommended to bring insect repellent.

Thanks Terry, never too early to start planning; especially with the 6-12 inches of snow that is coming..... :cold: mary

And just think, the area is a newer cruise port and is adding inferstructure all the times and more amenities for tourist as well. They have just over a year to add even more! the really seem to want to build up the cruise passenager services part of their economy, so that can only point toward good things.

Check out both RCCL and Carnival cruise line websites to see what they offer in the region and you can get a good idea about what is now available to cruise passengers.

I'm doing the last Costa Maya CC double dip and can't wait to see how well the cruises before us go!

This is all great Info to have and start studying up on what we want to do in Costa Maya. Thanks again. But as I said the CC "Double dip" is the highlight!!
