cost to screen in our deck

Anyone convert their deck to a screened in deck? We have a 12 X 16 deck that we want to screen in and in our mind it would cost $4,000 but we are just taking a stab in the dark. I have no idea what it would cost and am wondering if anyone has done a similar project recently. I dont want to waste someone's time in coming over to give us an estimate if its really $10,000. We have a tendency to think things are going to cost much less than they actually do.

From what I understand, a lot depends on how the framing for the deck was done.

Does the deck already have a roof? Decks that have to carry the extra weight of a roof required a certain substructure (maybe extra footings or beams) to safely carry the load. When we built our deck 15 years ago, we purposely added the extra footings and beams then even though a roof wasn't planned...just in case we opted to do it later. We didn't want to have to rip up the whole thing just to add the extra support.

We've been curious about this also. Our deck has the extra supports for a roof. We just want to add a roof, not screen in the entire thing. We have a budget of about $3000. Any ideas where I should start looking?

Good point. I didnt even think of the extra weight from the roof. This is probably going to cost way more than we thought....
