I have been searching the internet and can't get much info. We are looking at rewiring our 1800 sqare foot home and trying to ballpark the cost. Anyone have experience with this?

On a side note, call family and friends and ask for a reference. My pool guy suggested an electrician to us who in stalled all the lighting in our newly finished basement and he charged almost 1/3 of what larger companies were charging and was really great to work with. The same guy installed a light on our porch which was 2 stories up and only charged us $50, and he worked for almost 3 hours!

My son just had electrical work done in house. It was minimal work. Updating his fuse box and a small amount of rewiring. It cost him $1,200. I would imagine a whole house would be expensive.

Our house is close in size and when we did a fairly large remodel about 5 yrs ago we upgraded our electrical service and if I remember it was around $2500 total. We have a 2 story house (3 bed/2bath) and there was about a day and a half of labor for the electrician and his apprentice.

Our existing wasn't awful (not faulty) but most houses today have a lot more electronics and technology so even with energy efficient items we thought it was a good investment and it can be helpful when selling.

Good luck.

We did a to the studs remodel in 2006 and the electrical cost about $5000. This was a complete redo and new box. Our house is about 1800 sq ft.

I am a licensed electrician..cost will vary but you could expect around 3-4 thousand. Depends on access to walls, wall construction type, insulation in walls etc. Most electricians will provide a flat rate price to change the service and then a time and material rate for install. National Electric Code also requires AFCI circuit breakers and GFCI protection on all circuits. If you do get prices, PM me and I can offer my opinion. What state are you in??

To upgrade a service it can be from $1,000- $2,500 depending on who you use. We had a fire two years ago and had to rewire entire house. 3,200 sqft for $14,000 I do mean the entire house, walls were removed to the studs, upgraded service to 300 amps. A lot of xtras. What does whole house mean to you? It is always good to take your time. There are a lot of people who need the work. Find a good reliable Elec and price it with atleast 5 others. Good luck.

We are in a house approx. the same size. We did a total rewire/revamp service this past summer. We went to 200 Anyway, this meant a totally new box,"spread" out all the new circuits, some became separate circuits, rewiring of some basement items, new AFCI and GFCI , new breakers, new larger wire into the house, etc.

We went from 1960s electrical to current electrical. Total cost: $4,400.00 It was a crew of about 5 people that came one day and one or two people the next time. This cost included all supplies, permits, etc.
