This is highly debatable, the most direct route is in fact I-4 and in most cases it's also the faster route.. 417 veers far east of Orlando before looping back towards WDW adding unnecessary miles/time to the trip, not to mention, an unnecessary toll expense..
this was mostly due to problems around the MAJOR project to widen the road and add special lanes ..... (mostly north of the city to the Sanford exchange)
this project is (mostly) done ..... the big back-ups it created are gone .......
True. However if you are on that road during normal morning/evening rush hour you'll have some significant delays. Otherwise that's the route I'd take to avoid tolls.
