Cost of same day cancellation

what we do if at the last minute or same day we know we are not going to make the reservation, is go into your reservation and reschedule it further out. Once that is done you are not charged any penalty because it was a reschedule not cancellation. Then just cancel the future dining reservation to avoid going through the same scenario, unless you intend to keep it.

Its $10 per person. ^^ This is a great option, but during our January trip, the modify option did not work for dining. Just FYI.
 

Really? hmm hope that is not the norm now, we had to do it in October last year.
Yea, we couldn't modify any dining reservation while we were there. I read that it was an issue after we came back, but never heard whether or not it has been fixed.
 
for most reservations it is $10 per person. if you try to cancel the day of they ask you to make a phone call or talk to Guest Relations. It's also kind of hard to modify something that is generally sold out all the time like Oga's or Space 220.
 
If you call and have a fair reason, they'll almost always waive the fee in my experience. "Kid is barfing outside Astro Orbiter," "stuck on Monorail Orange," "flight got in late," "baby is having a meltdown" have not been a problem for me.

Don't abuse it, but if something legit goes wrong, you shouldn't have to worry.
 
Modify worked for us in February, however, because there are so few ADRs available it was tough to find a time to modify. We had to go day by day starting with the furthest day out and work back.
 
I remember reading maybe a month or two ago that you couldn’t “cancel” modify day of over the app, but it was still possible on the web site. Not sure if that’s still the case or if the app works again.
 
Last year we were able to walk up to podium and cancel for same day with no penalty. It was Beaches and Cream and we were just way too tired & full. Since it’s only my hubby and I, I was more than willing to eat the $20 cancellation charge so was pleasantly surprised when they said I wouldn’t be penalized. I think it was within an hour of our reservation time? It was close but can’t remember. This was the first and only time we’ve done this so not sure if we just got lucky or if it’s standard procedure.

Unfortunately you can’t call and get through to a person without a multi-hour wait. If you can’t modify the reservation out another trick is to make a dummy hotel reservation booking at 60 days out for a week. That will open up your 60+10 window and will likely let you modify the dining reservation into the extended window, then cancel it, then cancel the hotel reservation. This is ridiculous I know, but still better than sitting on hold for four hours to talk to a person.

This would likely work if the issue was that there was no availability for a very popular restaurant (like Sci-Fi or Oga's) but if you get some other error when trying to modify the best thing to do is try the mobile website instead of the Disney app.
