cost of hair braiding?

okay, i must be missing something.
When we arrive onboard, we got up for lunch. The salon is near one of the pools. Is the salon open at that point? Can my dd have her hair done before the ship actually sails or does the salon open once the boat leaves? Can I walk in and make an appt or do I have to call? Can I call from home? What is the fastest and easiest way to make an appt?

So after you get DD hair braided (I'm wanting to in CC from the posts I have read) I want to be able to put sunblock on her head so it doesn't burn -- from what I read in another post. However, now I can't find it, so I'm posting in this one -- what kind do you get that you can put on the scalp? I would assume a spray one would be best but is there one made for the head? I would think her hair would get all yecky and oily??? HELP!!!??? I don't want her to be miserable with a burn on her head either!

I'd like to add that if you get it done before you reach St. Martin then the vendors on the beach will not bother you as much. We were'nt that interested in getting my DD's hair done but after being hounded all day at the beach it was worth the $16.00 on the ship to have a little peace and quiet. :thumbsup2 I personally think the headband is a good choice, it looks nice in the formal pictures and in a bathing suit.

For the OP question, DD's headband with the beads was $16.00 8 rows @ $2.00 each + a tip .

When we were on the Wonder last year, it was posted in the Navigator that you could sign up for appointments between something like 1-3:30pm. It's not at the salon, it's at a different location. There were 2 women doing it. We made an appointment for our last day, because I wanted my DD4 to be able to wear them after the cruise.

I don't think they were actually braiding hair at that time, just making appointments.

Not sure if it will be the same on the Magic, I was looking at the recent Navigators to see if it's listed. Anyone?

I would use regular lotion, that way you can concentrate it on the parts. Yes, it will be oily, but you can wash it. The braids will still last for 3-4 weeks. I was careful when I washed DD's hair, but I still washed all of it.

When we were on the Wonder in November 2004 my daughter had a wrap done. Maybe they have stopped doing them. It cost more for the wrap because we added special beads but it didn't hurt. My daughter doesn't like her hair to be touched - I can't imagine her being able to sit through the braids. I hope they start doing the wraps again.
